HALL RADIO FOR SALE?

There's a post on the Northern NE board about this one one person responded that the owner is ill and his kids have no interest in owning radio stations. Also maybe some input on the recent firing of the morning duo having to do with their wanting a raise. Changing morning shows for the company may be happening across the board. So if this is true who would buy WCTK and WLKW/WNBH? Regardless I don't see any format change from country and there's not much you can do with the AM anyway.

Could Greater Media be interested in strengthening their position in the NE? They have 4 of the top 11 stations in Boston (Top 9 rated as there are ties with the latest trends) and have hands on experience w/ country with KLB.
Maybe CBS radio as they don't have a presence in RI or maybe Entercom strengthening their position in Providence. Those would be my main guesses for groups in larger or similar sized markets that either don't have a presence or a limited one here

Wow! Almost sounds like what happened to Susquehanna (the family thing). I hope for the Hall employee's sake Cumulus doesn't buy them. Most of the heritage they (Cumulus) got in the Susquehanna deal is still going strong, but most of the rest have slipped from once decent platforms. Susquehanna was one of the last of a species on the endangered list. Could they be extinct in another few years.? Let's hope not.

I had originally thought of Cumulus; but I don't think they have anything up this way in a market as large as Providence. They may make it a launching point; but I thought I remembered something in an article from not too long ago that said they were selling stations and downsizing

Which reminds me......Does anyone know what sort of age and health is 97.3 owner Edmund Dinis in these days?

97.3......a rare commodity these days...a stand-alone FM...and a full Class B at that!

As Arsenio Hall would say: "Just sorta makes you go Hmmmmmm". ;)

I know Ed Dinis...but haven't seen him in years. Interesting guy with lots of stories. But don't expect him to sell, he's got the Portuguese population 'locked up' and has programming that's diverse into other communities (Brazilian, Hispanic for a few). I've always held out this hope that Ed would get the Brazilian bug going and make it some sort of world music / NuJazz outlet.

And WJFD has a sledgehammer signal, too. I can remember 25 years ago, as WBSM's, chief, the then-WGCY in MONO, with a very muddy signal....

If the owner of WJFD ever plans to sell, he better do it now. His station isn't going to get any more valuable than it is at the present moment. Although the Portugeese programming does have intrinsic value considering the community.

If Hall sells, expect it to be a company or group we've never heard of before. The big companies are looking to get out, not bulk up.

Access.1, a group owner in Atlantic City recently sold 2 FMs, 2 AMs for somewhere in the neighborhood of $9 million dollars. That pricetag was downright shocking. When Access.1 bought these properties just a few years back, they paid three times that. Billing is extremely healthy (especially this time of year when the Jersey shore becomes a major market in a sense), so this goes to show how devalued radio stations are today.

But here's the kicker - the new owners are a group of longtime Atlantic City jocks! Expect to see more of this... the moms & pops are coming back. Hopefully they have a plan to make radio relevant in the digital world we're in.
