Hallelujah! Game Over In Jacksonville

iHeartMedia has flipped Sports “930 The Game” WFXJ Jacksonville FL to Gospel “Hallelujah 930“.

Also airing on 93.3 WJBT-HD2, the move comes months after iHeart removed WFXJ from FM via its former translator 97.3 W247CF Orange Park, which flipped to Regional Mexican97.3 El Patron” last May. WFXJ had featured a simulcast of Mike Bianchi’s morning show from WYGM Orlando and Fox Sports Radio programming the remainder of the day.

I sure hope this happens here in Dallas/Ft. Worth. We just recently lost our heritage Gospel station when iHeart bought it and flipped it to BIN. The only Gospel we are left with is a AM daytimer.

WFXJ joins two other Urban Gospel stations in the market.

--1320 WJNJ 50 kw days/5 kw nights, with an FM translator at 103.7.
--1360 WCGL 5 kw days/86 watts nights, with an FM translator at 94.7.
--1400 WZAZ went silent in 2017, but it had 1 kw with an FM translator at 98.7.

Can WFXJ survive with no FM translator? You'd think iHeart would put the Black Information Network on the station, since it is buying AM stations in quite a few large markets to run the service. Why jump into a format with so much competition?

BTW, I wonder what happened to WZAZ's translator at 98.7? I'm sure that's worth something.

FWIW, both WZAZ and its FM translator, W254CW, are currently licensed.

Periods of silence are shown as:
08/19/2020~01/20/2021
08/26/2019~09/14/2019
04/06/2019~04/18/2019
08/20/2017~07/30/2018

While the off-the-air time is considerable, they have enough time on-air to retain their license. They should be on, now according to their FCC filing.
