Halloran Hilton Hill

I remember hearing this guy on WGFX/The Zone in Nashville a few years ago. If I recalled correctly, he did two shows, the other based at WNOX here. How is ol' Triple-H doing in the ratings these days?

Let me be the first to say this.
Halloran is 100% class. This adamant professional should be listened to by
every rookie in the business who believes that he or she is a radio god.
Informative, entertaining, and humble... a very rare combination.
I have no idea of his ratings but at this point it's secondary.
Halloran simply presents a quality show...period.

That wasn't a hidden dig at a radio operator in upstate S.C. (who shall remain nameless), was it?

By the way - not to get too off-topic - but congrats to the postor on his upcoming nuptials!

A lot of folks really miss Hallerin over in Nashville, it's just that The Zone needed to go all-sports for the sake of the format. It's too bad Citadel doesn't control a talker in Nashville so HHH could have a place there, as well. I've never understood why Citadel doesn't put him on all their stations in the state for an all-Tennessee show. I realize Steve Gill beat them to it, but give me HHH anyday.

Hey folks across the state, we'd love for you to listen to Hal online at wnoxnewstalk.com! Just click the Listen Live link in the upper right hand corner.

It is nice that at least WNOX has one live/local show. Let's just hope Citadel lets HHH stick around and doesn't try to force Imus on us.

WNOX has several live and local shows. Daily they have HHH and Phil Williams, in morning and afternoon drives, respectively, and have several local weekend shows.

Trust me, HHH bills well enough that he's not going anywhere, certainly not with Imus as a replacement. No way Imus would work in this market.

I second that motion. Imus would never work in the Knoxville market because he is to "abrasive". In all fairness, I have not heard Imus since his radio return, But over his 40+ year career, he has been an outspoken "shock jock" and I cannot imagine , even after the nappy headed ho incident at wfan, Imus changing now. As far as his firing, I did not agree with it. It's a case of I may not really agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it all day long. We do have free speech in this country and while the remark was improper, he at the most should have been suspended. Imus is great at what he does but would never be a fit in East Tn I don't think.

But anyway, we are talking about Hal here. I've never met Hal, would'nt mind sometime, but I have spent nearly 30 years in radio in Kentucky before getting out , retiring, or whatever back in 2005 and I can tell by listening to him that he certainly appears to be a man of character. While we're at it, not a half bad musician either. While Hal does talk about some of the more serious issues, I like the way he goes about it and has repect for his callers and listeners, not talking down to us as some radio talk hosts do. Hal does the show in a friendly, uplifting type format (check out the "encouraging words" segment at around 5:40 am or so.) Combine that with the interaction between his producer Chris Marion and first rate newsman Dave Foulk and it's a show that would be hard to replace. If they would ever try to take that morning show off and replace it with Imus, Citadel might just as well end the LMA and turn 100.3 back over to Johnny Pirkle and go home. His style puts me in mind of Ludlow Porch, a man that does a syndicated talk show out of Georgia. I believe Hal would have a future in, at least, statewide syndication.

I cannot say all that about Hal and leave out Phil Williams (3-6 Mon thru Friday). The Philbio has made the transition quite well from rock d.j. to talker. I remember him way back in his career , back in the 70's before coming to Knoxville, working for a breif time at WEQO, a little a.m. daytimer (now defunct) in Whitley City Kentucky, Where I spent some time back in the 1980's.

Anyway, just my two cents (probably just a cent and a half to be honest). Enjoy the posts and keeping up with radio happenings here in East Tn and maybe someday I'll get the urge to get back in one day but for right now I'm content with doing some voice tracking here at home from time to time and sitting on the side.

Wasn't Imus already tried somewhere in the Knoxville market for a brief period? I'm thinking that was the case and that it definitely didn't work.

I don't know jetfli. If imus was already tried in the market at some point and failed, it makes me feel better that my thoughts on that subject are correct. I've only been in the local area a short time and it would take someone that has been here longer than I to answer that.

Re: Hallerin Hilton Hill

I do know that Don Imus was on in the Tri-Cities for a while. If any Tri-Cities folks are reading this, how did Imus fare up your way?

Point of interest- In the summer of 2006, Harold Ford, Jr. was a guest host for the morning show on WNOX, and for about 15 minutes he did a simulcast with Imus nationwide. Little did we know that Imus would work for Citadel just a year later.

HHH is here to stay for as long as he wants it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just noticed it and wanted to provide an answer. Yes, Imus did air for a short period in Knoxville. Back in the late 90's from '97 to '98, Dick Broadcasting, who then owned WNOX put another talk format on AM850 as WIOL. They had Imus as the morning anchor. They also ran Dr. Laura in middays and Dave Ramsey afternoons if I remeber correctly. It never took off though and they sold the station a year of so later.

Speaking of Hallorin, I'm also surprised that Citadel hasn't expanded his show. He is certainly one of the best local talkers I know of and we are lucky that he has chosen to stay in Knoxville. I think they should have kept his Nashville show and I'm really surprised Citadel hasn't tried to do a statewide or regional show with Hallorin. Citadel owns talkers in Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Tri Cities. I would hate to lose Hallorin's local show, but I could certainly see him being a success in syndication in the future. Anyone know if he ever explored finding another outlet in Nashville? I guess since Citadel has no slot, that they wouldn't allow him to be on a competing stick.

But The Zone never stated that the show originated from Knoxville but wanted people to believe he was doing his show from The Zone studios in Nashville.
