I second that motion. Imus would never work in the Knoxville market because he is to "abrasive". In all fairness, I have not heard Imus since his radio return, But over his 40+ year career, he has been an outspoken "shock jock" and I cannot imagine , even after the nappy headed ho incident at wfan, Imus changing now. As far as his firing, I did not agree with it. It's a case of I may not really agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it all day long. We do have free speech in this country and while the remark was improper, he at the most should have been suspended. Imus is great at what he does but would never be a fit in East Tn I don't think.
But anyway, we are talking about Hal here. I've never met Hal, would'nt mind sometime, but I have spent nearly 30 years in radio in Kentucky before getting out , retiring, or whatever back in 2005 and I can tell by listening to him that he certainly appears to be a man of character. While we're at it, not a half bad musician either. While Hal does talk about some of the more serious issues, I like the way he goes about it and has repect for his callers and listeners, not talking down to us as some radio talk hosts do. Hal does the show in a friendly, uplifting type format (check out the "encouraging words" segment at around 5:40 am or so.) Combine that with the interaction between his producer Chris Marion and first rate newsman Dave Foulk and it's a show that would be hard to replace. If they would ever try to take that morning show off and replace it with Imus, Citadel might just as well end the LMA and turn 100.3 back over to Johnny Pirkle and go home. His style puts me in mind of Ludlow Porch, a man that does a syndicated talk show out of Georgia. I believe Hal would have a future in, at least, statewide syndication.
I cannot say all that about Hal and leave out Phil Williams (3-6 Mon thru Friday). The Philbio has made the transition quite well from rock d.j. to talker. I remember him way back in his career , back in the 70's before coming to Knoxville, working for a breif time at WEQO, a little a.m. daytimer (now defunct) in Whitley City Kentucky, Where I spent some time back in the 1980's.
Anyway, just my two cents (probably just a cent and a half to be honest). Enjoy the posts and keeping up with radio happenings here in East Tn and maybe someday I'll get the urge to get back in one day but for right now I'm content with doing some voice tracking here at home from time to time and sitting on the side.
