They f'ed up by leaving the Beer on. Major temper tantrums over at Max that that got leaked. It's Rock. PD is already in town. Morning show from Tampa. Night show from Grand Rapids.
You’re full of crap! “Kungpao” it is, and “Kungpao” it will stay.
I’m going to be frank, honest, but respectful in what I’m about to say.
Everyone here thinks this is a stunt. However, there is no evidence to support that. Oh, the “Beer” display? That’s there to make us radio people talk. That will go away on Monday. I believe that “Kungpao” is the real thing. The message from the GM, and the listener comments on the website say it all.
I understand why many of you think this format is a stunt. We’ve all been brainwashed or conditioned to believe that radio stations must take on a bland format like Classic Rock or top 40. We are taught that nitch formats don’t sell at all. Therefore, it is only natural for all of you to think it’s a stunt – most radio stations don’t do formats like this longterm. However, I respectfully ask, am I the only one on this board with an imagination? Has radio gotten so bad that, if it’s not drab, it’s not for real? Am I the only one left who believes that nitch formats like Classic Chinese Hits can work on the radio? (Hello? Hello? Anyone home?)
I again ask you to look at the statement from the GM of Max Media, and then at the comments that appear on the site. Where did those comments come from, ya think. Thin air? No. They came from actual “Kungpao” listeners – listeners who want something fresh and new on the radio.
Look, “Kungpao” will never really gain advertising success. And, it will never be number one in the ratings, for sure. But I think we need to start thinking outside the box here. Is it wrong to believe that maybe, just maybe, Max Media is doing this for the listeners, and not for what is in the bottom line for them? Is it really that ridiculous to believe that Max Media has done their research, and will actually try something new – something that the people want, rather than what fits their wallets? Is it criminal to believe that radio can deliver fun, new formats again, and that Max Media could start a trend here with their new Chinese “Kungpao” format?
I respect your opinions. However, while the rest of you try to predict the next bland, robotic format to appear at 100.5, I for one will be listening to “Kungpao 100.5,” and holding on to the hope that Max Media will begin a new revolution of exciting new formats on the radio dial.
