HANK - FM

What does this mean to Emmis' HANK in Indy?

"Hank FM “plays everything country” – and now Hank’s playing with syndicator Envision.
Savvy Canadian Howard Kroeger, who’s behind the original “Bob FM” variety pop-hits formula, also creates and voices the variety-hits format for country radio named Hank FM. He calls it “wide-open country.” Envision CEO Danno Wolkoff says "the Hank FM format will give a broader musical choice in the crowded country radio arena." Envision Radio Networks will start offering "Hank FM" on "different levels of programming packages, available for both cash and barter." Affiliates get to use the "Hank" identity and have access to "a constantly-updated music library, creative on-air copy and station imaging", as well as off-air support. The “plays everything country” library ranges from new hits from Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood back to the 1980s.*"

Is there a copyright legal battle brewing? Did Emmis even do anything to protect the "HANK" moniker in Indy when they launched it back in the middle of this past decade? Or did they already have some sort of agreement in place with Envision? It seems that this syndication effort is new from Envision, at least according to the source article printed today, so I'm not sure how likely that would be. Can anyone add some factual clarity to Emmis' HANK position? Or anyone want to postulate for fun?? ;D

There's nothing sinister here...Emmis licensed (and continues to do so) the term "Hank" from Howard Kroeger who assisted Emmis when they launched Hank FM a few years ago. Kroeger has cut a deal with Envision to syndicate his format in the United States. Kroeger is also the owner of the trademark on "Bob" which he licenses to station across the US and Canada. He helped launch the original adult hits Bob in Canada before "Bob" and "Jack" spread across the border and made their mark in the US radio industry.

Well they did just recently start branding themselves as "Country 97.1 Hank FM" instead of just "97.1 Hank FM".
Maybe they're setting it up to drop the Hank name kind of like Jack did when they went from "104.5 Jack FM" to "104.5 WJJK"

Must be kind of irritating to all the Ex-WFMS management and programming types to be limited to following this "package" and paying for it.
