Wow....

What a great thing I took my iPod with me, and it was packed with airchecks of actual, real, honest "JACK" stations (WCBS-FM in NYC, and WMAK in Nashville, and KJQN in SLC).

That "HANK" on 99.9 in Tallahassee defies logic.....I went by there in late '03 and they were doing a Classic Hits format that was commendable, then they put Jones Oldies, then upon arriving at the Capital City, I expected a semi-resemblance of an "Adult Hits" station, but I get what seems to be a tremendously poorly programmed, way out of focus Lite AC.....You don't have to go to any bar in Tally to get a "Stiff", just tune in 99.9 and you'll hear songs that went nowhere like "Falling in Love Again" by Gloria Estefan...Sure, she's an awesome artist, with plenty of great titles, but *that* song?? And can someone explain the rationale (or lack thereof), of running production that doesn't mention "Hank", only the jocks say "Hank"???

I heard a "Brenda Matthews" on WTLY, guessing she's cyberjocked out of Orlando as she seems to be a WMGF name (also a name from the old WSHE over there).....Don't cry wolf when the 'corporates' are eating your lunch if you yourself cannot put up a worthy fight in the programming war.

And don't call yourself "Hank", if you don't play Country...I don't care what your GM's name is.

They're using the "HANK" moniker less and less...more of the liners are now
saying "Tallahassee's new variety station..99.9". As for jocks, I've listened from time to time but have yet to actually hear a live voice on that station.
It has almost no promotion or visibility in the market..I agree with you about
the programming. It is poorly programmed. I thought I would like the variety hits format, but this one doesn't do it..LOL

Brenda did work at the old WSHE and came to Magic 107 in July of 1999 I think.
She's done middays on 107 for a few years now.
Her bio is on the website: www.magic1071.com.
Magic isn't too bad, but I feel they should have kept the Steve and Sara
morning show. Their mornings are weak right now.

AMEN to that. Looks like they're trying to get away from it already!<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah, that's another thing..I don't like criticizing jocks but what is the story on the air personalities?? The one I heard in PM drive sounded extremely canned.
Too polished and "Jock-Like" to be a Tally voice, and with NO local content whatsoever, he sounded like some guy in a major market voicing generic breaks, only giving artist info.

So is she actually in Tally, or still in O-Town?? If she's in Orlando that shows you the difference between good v/t'ing and bad tracking (Hank, above). I really couldn't tell TLY was canned had I not known by the name as she made local references to contests, and contest winner names (think she mentioned TCC was an "Office Of The Day" winner)..

Again, beating CC is not brain surgery, it's just using at least 25% of *your* brain to compete effectively.

I heard the afternoon person today. I think he's local..one of the Opus
folks from the 4-station cluster. But I'm not familiar with this air personality.

I believe she is in Tallahassee now. I think Byron Scott (the morning
guy), Brenda, and Jeff Horn are all local. Byron is also an occasional
weekend jocj for sister station WTNT 94.9. Jeff Horn is the OM for CC-Tally.

on Cumulus in Tally.

> LOL!! Cumulus is beating them here...another LOL..

Yeah, that was another one..HBX sounded better last time I heard them before last week....

....10 years ago when all the programming originated from ABC/SMN's "Touch" format in Dallas. I remember HBX's PD got "PD of The Week" in 91 or 92 and one of the crown jewels was their "Smartcaster" software for automation, LOL. He wasn't even fulltime, he was 98.9's programmer and just babysat the formalities of a bird based station.

I used to be on that station from '02 to '04. Me and my boy Jeff Horn. Good times.
