Hannity and the Zimmerman Situation. Out on a limb?

Hannity said he has talked to George Zimmerman, at the same time Zimmerman has apparently lost his legal team. Zimmerman has also started a website to raise money.

If Hannity lands an interview it might be a ratings plus, but I wonder if this contact might be problematic in the future? Subpoenas, depositions, etc. Without getting involved in the specifics of the Florida case, maybe arranging an interview should have been left to staff?

I'm not an attorney, I've heard of: attorney client privileges, husband and wife, religious people taking confessions, however usually the reporters go to jail for contempt if they don't testify, I don't think there is immunity for reporters.

I would get staff or an attorney to negotiate first, to land the interview if I was a "BIG media personality."

Now a bunch of people might want Hannity as a witness? That is a hassle.

He can't be blamed for taking the call and I doubt his conversation at that point could be shown to have evidentary value. I see no downside for him even if he is required to give a deposition later. He'll get more publicity for both his radio and television programs.

You raise an excellent legal point. At the very least he risks being subpoenaed as a material witness.

Of course in the current tabloid cuture, actually becoming part of the case might turn out to be a ratings plus.

I'm not a lawyer either, but my understanding is that the confidentiality between any professional and their clients is generally respected, except when the justice systems believes the professional may have information that is vital to protect the public. Reporters are usually the only professionals that would have that kind of information. Occasionally doctors.

I strongly suspect that Hannity has been in close contact with a lawyer throughout every step of the process.

All George Zimmerman did was overtake Casey Anthony for the award for "Most Hated and Most Wanted Person in Florida"
