Hannity on WSJS?

Yes! Sales and clients have been told! New PD will do 10A-12N at some point. So long, Laura!

You know, they put Hannity on in December of 2005 until Beth Ann arrived on the scene. Usually when you tease an upcoming program you don't do it 15 months in advance? :~)

It's about time. I never understood why CBS always kept the #2 talker on an inferior signal. Apparently Curtis sees things the way I do.

There are a couple of reasons Hannity remained on 1230. Primarily AVAILS. You could sell twice as much inventory at better than half the ratings and make more money. I will be interesting to see how they handle the inventory with news and weather sponsors, traffic reports, etc. Not to mention all the network avails they give up.

The other reason was that Curtis (via WPTF) owned the rights for Alamance County. They did the same deal with Rush years ago - which was why it took a year for WSJS to put Rush on the 1200 signal!

Whatever the reason might be, I think it is smart radio. Hannity will be the first good afternoon drive show on WSJS in ten years or more. If they build good news and info blocks around it the move makes sense. Even if not the ratings couldn't go much lower.

I think it'll be a ratings boost, if anything. Though this begs the question: what to do with the 3-6 slot at MFR? Are they simulcasting?

There is a delicate balance between ratings and costs and the ability to recover those costs. It is not insurmountable, but it is an issue for any station with a heavy network commitment. Barter and a small amount of network compensation is to blame.

Hannity's format clock does not allow for ten minute news at the top of the hour, two business reports (with network commercials) and four or five traffic reports. There will be some streamlining to do.

Look for Hannity fans to be upset over interruptions for PRN qualifying reports on Fridays.

And what happens to Money Matters? Will Gib & John move to the 10AM slot or just go away? Lots of $$ tied to that show.

Should be interesting!

Some of you guys are funny. Do you think the Curtis people are amateurs who haven't considered those things? I've been watching them the last two or three years in Raleigh and continue to be impressed with just about everything they do. The WSJS and WZTK combination should be formidable and I for one think they will shake things up in a positive way.

Now if Curtis could only fix how HORRIBLE WSJS sounds. Overloads, HUM, distortion, sibilance. Makes me think my radio is not tunned in on frequency but it's digital. How sloppy of the past owners.

I don't think anyone's saying Curtis hasn't thought of these things CCAlumni... I've come to the same conclusion you have over the past few years. I don't think anyone with half a brain could come to any other conclusion. Hell, the Rooster web site thing alone was a shimmer of brilliance!

I think everyone's just wondering how they'll deal with these issues. Whatever they end up doing, it'll most likely make sense. They're one of the few operators left in this country who seem to have any.
