Hannity Out at WBEN

Christian had an extremely long run at STAR. He didn't "Leave". Entercom pulled the trap door on him like countless others. Can you tell if the the ratings have been impacted in any way by his departure? He was fortunate to find another gig in the same town, but it's still not "Big" news...

Clearly the ratings at Star are lower than they were before, but all we have are the 12+, so it's hard to say. It's my view that his heritage made him a familiar name, and like most familiar names, he has his local fan base. So to them, his departure was big news.

Really when you talk about big news, it's all relative. To some people, Kelly Clarkson's divorce was big news. To others, they don't know who she is. Everyone lives in their own echo chamber.

Middays at WECK are impressive, not only 12 plus, but especially 45 plus. I am sure Roger has something to do with this. He runs a tight board and does a great local content shift

I grew up on radio and worked in the industry for many years.

I almost never listen to radio at all anymore. Too many better options. Hate to say it, but DJ's really are in the way and talkradio is dreadfully boring due to it's incessant mono-themed drumbeat. Just boring.

If radio disappeared tomorrow, I would barely notice.

I don't think you would barely notice. If stations were all turned off in Buffalo at the same time, there would be an outcry from the public

I'm often confused by a post from a person saying how radio doesn't matter to them any longer yet they take the time to post on a radio board. What gives? Why even post if you're pretty much done with radio? Why browse this board? I think it's a fair question. Not trying to pick a fight but I don't surf sites where I no longer have interest nor do I post on such posts that would allow posts.

Totally fair question.

I think the people on this board love or loved radio at one time. Some are bitter, others what to be Monday morning quarterbacks, and the is truth that there are not as many listeners than years ago. Technology has fragmented radio, however, many people still listen. Our advertisers get very good results, and our listener reaction has never been better.

The internet and technology changed everything...obviously. But it has changed everything, not just radio. It has changed the way people view TV, it has changed print, it has changed car buying, etc

Everything is evolving, as it always does in life.

I am convinced the posters here care about the industry, they may not like the direction, they may not like the changes, but they care in some way.

Just my opinion. Feel free to correct me.

Interesting, one of the most popular trends on Tik Tok the last few weeks, "Dreams," a 43 year old song by Fleetwood Mac, sung by dozens of singers. Some were actually very good.

Why is that confusing?

Having worked in the industry for many years, the moving parts of it still interest me. It's the current content that I find boring.

Third ticket, endorsed. Tight board. No floater. References. Top 30 markets. No bells. No gongs. No whistles. -Broadcasting Magazine, situations wanted, the 60s and 70s

But we don't program for people like you.

Recalls Monty Python, "Shut your festering gob, you tit! Your type really makes me puke, you vacuous, coffee-nosed, malodorous, pervert." (But nowhere near as funny.)
