Hannity's LIVE show - with one hour delay on WBAP

Was quite surprised that WBAP's much ballyhooed "Live" Sean
Hannity broadcast from South Fork on June 1 was on a one hour
tape delay. The station had been advertising a 2 pm start time for
months, yet at 2 p.m. was the third hour of Rush Limbaugh.

A call to the station was answered WE CAN'T PRE-EMPT RUSH
LIMBAUGH!!! Did the FCC do away with the rule that stations cannot
be penalized for pre-empting a show to make way for a program
that the station itself considers more important to the LOCAL
community?

For a long time, the only thing worth listening to on WBAP was
the one hour "Hello, Texas" from noon to 1 p.m., but that was
deleted so that "Rush" could be carried live.

Too bad the station is nothing more than 3 hour blocks of
Republican party propaganda. When the hosts, both national and
local, say "we," the "we" doesn't mean Texans or Americans, but
rather Republicans.

WBAP even terminated the contract with the late great Harold Taft's
staff of meteorologists. Now "Weather Center 820" is Channel 8's
weather person (but not a meterologist) Troy Dungan PHONING IN.

How sad for a once-great heritage station.

Please note that Rush is also one hour delayed...

Complains about Rush, 3 hrs 'Republican propaganda' but
disappointed that Hannity was not live?

'scuze, me, but I think Sean is a bigger 'water hauler' for
the Repubs than Rush, with a bit less finesse than Rush, so
this is where I don't understand the basis for the 'voiced
complaint'.

Maybe he really was disappointed that Hannity wasn't carried
live, but there is the internet (pick up some station out east
that carries him live) or fish around on AM and find a station
that carries him live (like 710 KEEL) ...

Astute observation there, _Jim.

If he was that hard up to hear it, he could've tuned to KTBB AM-600 in Tyler and heard him live. Or has IBOC on KMKI destroyed BB's signal into D-FW?

KTBB 600 is not listenable with 620 KMKI doing HD IBOC; it takes the
narrow IF filter setting in a communications receiver to be able to
demod KTBB w/o IBOC noise and the audio that manages to make it's way
through a narrow SSB filter does not make for pleasant listening!

Re: One conflicted puppy?

Not a "conflicted puppy" at all. One of my progressive friends
(who paid $25 to attend) was going to ask Hannity why Amnesty International
was a credible organization when they documented Saddam's
atrocities, but when the same organization used the same
standards to judge America's treatment of some 68,000 "detainees,"
the organization's conclusions were "absurd."

Alas, she could not fake being a sincere enough Bush goose stepper
to get past the screeners.

You're right. Mickey's IBOC hash is pretty wicked all around DFW. Besides, I've always thought that KTBB Tyler has one of the sorriest signals in the state for running 5,000 watts on a low-end regional channel. The ground conductivity is pretty poor. Nighttime coverage (with 2500 watts) is a real mess too, with serious nulls toward Kansas City, Houston and Austin. What's more, Longview coverage is zilch at night. It's too bad, because KTBB is a great sounding station for the size of the market.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the nighttime coverage. There are some parts of Smith County that you hear BB, but it's like you're DXing them. Used to live right outside of the SW side of Tyler. Once I passed Grande Blvd., the signal went to pot. They're protecting a 590 station in Austin (calls escape me) and another, I think, at 610 toward KC (calls escape me again). I think their nighttime pattern is more NW-SE than anything.

You want to talk about a stinky 5kw AM signal, KWRD-AM Henderson. Can't get them past the county line. What's up with that????

Maybe Amnesty Int'l needs to be following the UN peacekeepers around to make sure they don't take advantage of the locals wherever they are. Did anyone else hear that story just in the past few days?

KCSP

The 610 they protect in Houston is KILT

And the co-channel station that KTBB protects is WREC Memphis. That's a very deep null to the east northeast, which just happens to be the direction from their transmitter toward Longview. KTBB totally disappears there when the night pattern kicks in.
