Happy 1st Birthday KOOL Radio

It was 12 Noon on Friday July 3, 2015 when Davidson Media Group flipped WACM (1490/West Springfield) and simulcast Partner WXCT (990 Southington) from Spanish Variety to Oldies as "Oldies 990 and 1490 WXCT."

Over the course of a the past year that have been many changes.

1. The stations were bought by Red Wolf Broadcasting.

2. The name of the station changed to "KOOL Radio" and added WSKP 1180 in Hope Valley to the network.

3. The format was evolved in January 2016.

4. An FM Translator was added on 96.1 in Southington and on 104.3 in Hope Valley.

5. WXCT changed calls back to WNTY.

6. In the Springfield Market the format moved from 1490 to the much more powerful 1270 frequency.

7. While all 3 stations run the same music and have the same 3 voice-tracked jocks they are no longer a direct simulcast.

Wnty 990

Sounds like they must have worked on the 990 transmitter fairly recently. For the last month or so the reception in western Southington has been much better on night power.

You might be right. I live in Southington near the Plainville/Bristol line and I've noticed 990 has been coming in better at night on my Walkman. I can't get 96.1 very well on my Walkman. Too much overload. And speaking of 96.1 yesterday there was no Italian Show or Lutheran Church Mass. For 5 1/2 hours they ran Dead Air with an annoying hum.(990 was just fine). Seems like they often have problems on Sundays. That's when programming originates from the studios on Old Turnpike Road in Southington rather than the broom closet on New London Turnpike in Glastonbury. And at 2PM when they switched back to the Glastonbury studios there were no problems.
