want to wish KC 101 a Happy 30th Anniversary! Been listening to the 1999 20th Reunion CD that someone made me a few year ago! John P Johnson-Tampa,Fla(formerly of Naugatuck CT) 8) ;D
As the letter on the site below states, WKCI did indeed sign on for the first time in 1969. However, there are several mentions of a "WDEE-FM" on 101.3 prior to that date. Does anyone have any information on that station?
Happy birthday to the virtual ghost town! The 20th anniversary was AMAZING! We had ALL the old timers there like Willie B. Goode, Danny Lyons, Stormin' Norman, Pete Salant and many many more!
Yes, prior to the station being WKCI (for Kops Communications Incorporated), WKCI had been WDEE-FM (coupled with WDEE-AM which later became WCDQ-AM, WOMN-AM, WSCR-AM, WNNR-AM, WXCT-AM and now is WQUN-AM and owned by Quinnipiac University). WDEE's owners sold the station (or CP) to Daniel Kops. As you probably know, it was "WKCI-FM 101 - Stereo Island" with a beautiful music format until the flip to hot AC in 1979.
