Happy 30th Birthday KAVV The Cave

Sorry that Paul didn't mention that I was the very first LIVE jock on the air there after playing "The Crazy Cave" for a week or two over and over. Hard to believe it's been 30 years. Congratulations Paul.

Might be that some people would be interested in the Cochise County ratings. Cochise is just east of Pima. Biggest city by far is Sierra Vista followed by Douglas, Bisbee, Benson, Willcox and Tombstone. As you will see, having visibility in Sierra Vista is a big plus. The higher powered Tucson stations show up very well. Survey is done once a year.

Quarter Hour 12 +

1) KZMK (K101) 100.9 Sierra Vista
2) KKYZ 101.7 Sierra Vista
3) XHSAP 98.5 Agua Prieta
4) KTAN 1420 Sierra Vista
5) KAVV 97.7 Benson
6) KWCD 92.3 Bisbee
7) KDCQ 95.3 Douglas
8) KRQQ 93.7 Tucson
9) KOHT 98.3 Marana With its poor signal this is a mystery.
10) KMXZ 94.9 Tucson
11) KDAP Douglas
12) KLPX 96.1 Tucson
13) KNST 790 Tucson
14) KWCX 104.9 Willcox Now off the air.
15) KFMA 92.1 Green Valley (Tucson)
22) KHIL-1250 Willcox

CUME: 1 KZMK, 2 KKYZ, 3 KRQQ, 4. KAVV, 5. KWCD, 6. KTAN, 7: KOHT, 8 KMXZ

Impressive that you guys beat KWCD with that pretty decent signal they have from up above Bisbee. Last time I was back home in SV I really enjoyed what you guys are doing at The Cave.

Curious about the Cochise County ratings. Who does them? Is K101 tops by a long shot (AQH wise) or is it a pretty close race? Also I'm not familiar at all with 98.5 out of AP. Is that a Spanish-language format?

Anyone willing to pay Arbitron $500 can get the exact numbers. I doubt if we'd get $500 worth of additional business as very few small market advertisers care about ratings. A year ago Arbitron claimed that KZMK had a weekly cume of 20,600 and they placed KRQQ in second place with 13,200.

KWCD transmits from atop Mule Mountain north of Bisbee but their power is all of 90 watts. That's good for a few listeners in Douglas which probably helps their numbers though Douglas has its own country music station.

XHSAP is in Spanish and it has a following in Douglas.

Had the much induced pleasure to hear "Little Arrows" by Leapy Lee....last night while driving around.....really really enjoyed a much forgotten oldie on the Decca record label.... ;D keep it up Mr. Cave and crew :D
