Happy 60th Birthday, El Rushbo!

Rush Limbaugh turned the big 6-0 today! :)

Quote from today's show: "I've always said that every year I get older, life gets better -- and it's still true. I'm not maxed out."

Happy birthday to Howard Stern too. He was born the same day 3 years after the Golfer.

Maybe we should chip in a get him a gift certificate at Wal-Green's.
...Matt, humour requires precision. The accurate name is "Walgreens," as in Charles Walgreen, the founder of the first pharmacy in the chain, in 1901 Chicago. "Wal-[whatever]" indicates the corporation founded by Sam Walton in Rogers, Arkansas, in 1962. Pacifica News lost all credibility with me when they ran a story 18 or so years ago claiming Wal-Mart and Walgreens were co-owned, which they never have been...

Thanks, King, I should have proofed more carefully. I know they are not co-owned, although I did own stock in both at the same time. Both did well and helped make up for what I lost because I also had stock in Clear Channel.

Happy Birthday to the Satan worshiping, quad married, anti-American, drug addicted #1 talk show host in America.

and people still listen to his dog and pony show. That's incredible. As for me, haven't turned to a rush frequency since 1991. That's when I figured he had only one song to sing.

Must be miserable not to hear because of drug abuse.

Yeah... I like the guy.

How do you know his hearing loss was related to drug use? Al Franken still has his hearing, as does Patrick Kennedy.

Different drugs (illegal and legal, your body doesn't make a distinction) have different side effects; some drugs may affect hearing, others may cause nervious tics, others may damage the liver etc. I'm not aware of what drugs Al Franken and Patrick Kennedy did, what Rush was overmedicating on (due to severe back pain) was Vicodin and as per the below quote from WEBMD, excessive use of Vicodin can cause hearing loss.
Medications. Some types of drugs, including the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics (streptomycin, neomycin, kanamycin), large quantities of aspirin, chemotherapy drugs (cisplatin, carboplatin), Vicodin (in large quantities), macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin) can cause hearing loss. Sometimes these effects are temporary and hearing will return once you stop taking the drug, but in most cases the hearing loss is permanent.
IIRC when Rush returned to the air, he was candid about the drug use and why he used it and the effects and that he had to have a cochlea implant to help restore his hearing, and from what I understand he still has some hearing loss, but the implant helped lessen the hearing loss.

@ DRT: Thank you for the post on the drug impact. That was very informative. As for Rush's hearing, as I understand what he has said, he is deaf without the cochlear implant working properly. I believe he has said he knows his regular hearing will not return. He "hears" music, but in more of a monotone than the average person. (as if you are hearing it through an tube or tunnel) He relies more on the vibration and thumping of the beat.

Jimme,

Glad that you found my post informative and not confusing! :)

I have learned a lot from other people on this board,....... many intelligent people (including you) posting/sharing information here.
