Happy 60th birthday, WBTV!

The special wasn't quite what I was hoping for, but I always enjoy seeing the clips from the past. Especially Moira Quinn's cute hairdos.

I haven't really been a WBTV viewer in the past 20 years other than the Thanksgiving Parade. First it was moving outside the area where I could pick them up well enough to watch, then even after I moved back closer to Charlotte WFMY had a perfect signal and WBTV still wasn't very watchable.

Digital TV has changed that. Although I get perfect results from WFMY's digital channel, I mostly watch cable and WBTV is there--though so is WFMY.

I have been inside the old WBTV transmitter building on top of Spencer Mountain a couple of times where television in the Carolinas was born. It's old and WBTV long ago moved to the new site in Dallas. The building is old a bit dirty and a little run down but it is still one of the more interesting transmitters sites I have seen. It was probably very classy back in '49.

Today the site is home to some two way radio equipment, NOAA weather radio, XM Radio, and backup transmitters for FM and TV.
