Say what you will about him he is quite a radio legend and at 90 still going strong. I hope you have many more years to tell us "The rest of the story". I've always loved his news and comments and all. Now page two..

90? wow. the man is a legend. he is a radio history lesson on the mic. takes u back to a time when all was right in the world. just a killer classic radio style.

90.... yes! 'going strong'......hmmmm, don't think so.

Well he's still on the air. Now how much or little I don't know as I don't get to hear his broadcasts as much anymore as I used to since there are few stations around here carrying his program. The only one I know of is WZRU. There once was a guy (don't know his name) that did some car dealer spots we ran that sounded so much like Paul Harvey that he would be a good substitute for him. When I first heard the sopt I thought it was Paul Harvey doing them and then I listened more closely and heard the difference. But to the average listener they wouldn't even know the difference.

Kinston Nissan ran these... I'd say about 3-4 years ago.

We run Paul Harvey here in Richmond, KY...but most of the time it's Paul Harvey JR now, and the Rest of the Story segments are pretty much re-runs. Paul just returned on a part time status after being gone for several months due to health reasons. Mike Huckabee actually fills in occasionally. I'm not sure how much longer he's going to be on the air.

It was on your web stream I heard about his birthday. Yeah I didn't know how little he does it now. The radio word would loose a true radio legend when he passes, but let's hope he has a few more to go before then.

I agree Mr. Harvey is a true legend. I think his wife Angel passed away in April and he's gone down hill since. I want to say he has a contract with ABC until he turns 100. Let's hope he makes that milestone!

Kris

if memory serves, he signed a 10 year contract in 2000 at age 82! which means his
current contract is up in 2010. but clearly, he probably won't survive to complete even that.....
let alone signing up for ten more years!

remember the saying 'you're hand is writing checks you're body can't cash!'

I listen every weekday at 8:30 (not at noon because I'm usually busy and online is just too complicated) and every Saturday at noon, and my station runs "The Rest of the Story" twice a day, so if I miss it at 3 I can usually get it the next day at 7:30 (or on Monday after the Friday broadcast). I don't know why they won't do the Saturday "Rest of the Story" but I haven't heard it in two years ever since WFMX traded Paul Harvey for Steve Harvey. It's why I'm here, though, because this site came up first when I was looking for a place to rant about the demise of one of the great country stations.

As for whether "The Rest of the Story" is reruns, that was true when Paul was still recovering from his various ailments and the loss of Angel, but Paul himself has been doing those for months now and I have seen no evidence anything he did since then was a rerun.

He did two Saturday broadcasts but Ron Chapman has been filling in most weekends. Paul Jr. has pretty much taken over the morning, ending every broadcast with "Now that's news." I do miss the updates of current news, which Ron Chapman or someone would do. It's mostly advances in science such as stem cell research and gas-saving cars, but most of the funny stories seem to be on Saturday. I don't know what the noon broadcast is like, but I guess I'll find out when I go to the beach because there's a station I can hear on the way there which was wreaking havoc with the signal of the station I wanted to listen to.

Harvey needs to hang it up. It's just painful to listen to him whenever he is on now. He's had a great career and it's way past his time to go.

What's really painful for me to hear (and see) is Dick Clark. Sad what happened to him, but he keeps on trying to do the New Year's thing. He needs to give it up. The replacement that has been on just don't cut it with me either.
