Happy Birthday KFYI!

Is the Nearly Bald One getting a US Cities map? Monday morning the Nurse and I heard him confuse Providence, Rhode Island with Provincetown, Mass. He finally called the Massachusetts city Providence Town (sfx -ohhhhh...clap, clap clap).

We hope the really BIG NEWS is KFYI-FM at 96.9 ;D

That's not the only map he needs. This morning, trying to refute a statement by Dr. Osterloh, he quoted a scripture from Ephesians, written, as he said, "to the new church in Ephesia, Greece." Huh?

Later, he criticized Osterloh for quoting the Bible without knowing it first.

Uh, Barry? Pot...kettle...black.

I've found very few people who claim to know as much about the Bible as Barry does who actually know as little about the Bible as Barry does.

For those of you keeping score, the book of Ephesians was written to the church at Ephesus, in Asia Minor, now Turkey.
 
The number of stupid mistakes that Barry Komando makes could fill a library.

Of course, he is never wrong, its just the entire planet!

It wasn't just the mistake that tickled my funny bone - everybody makes them, especially Barry. (sfx - ooooooh!!!)
It wasn't just stupid mistakes - see above.

It was just the great hubris with which he castigated Osterloh for being wrong about the Bible (which Osterloh was), and the irony that he had himself made a stupid Bible blunder within the course of the same discussion.

Perhaps the only reason Barry doesn't look completely stupid is because he follows Bruce Jacobs, who makes anybody look good.

How about turning off the obnoxious...(you all think I'm going to say

Round the clock newsroom/local news coverage. If I'm not mistaken,
55/FYI's live/local/late-breaking presence isn't there for much of the
overnight period, and ends even earlier on weekends.

A permanent evening (7-10pm) talkmeister?

Maybe KFYI could hire Dr. Akbar and Nurse Jeff to fill the 7pm-10pm shift. They could call it "Middle Easter Men in the Media Hut" or, on Friday, they could call it "Middle Eastern Men Group in the Media Hut".

Or, maybe KFYI could sell the Mix format to CBS radio and put KFYI on 96.9. Maybe CBS could drop FreeFM and put Mix on 101.5. They could call it "Free Basing Mix 101.5FM".

Finally, maybe Royal Norman will be replaced by Dewey Hopper. Dewey will do live weather remotes from a plane where he can also do traffic forecasts. He will be live, local, airborne and the first person to truly ever do traffic and weather together.

Now THAT would be interesting...The Wheel of Misfortune with Akbar 'n Jeff on KFYI! We doubt whether the Chickboss has the dough or cajones to hire The Middle Eastern Men of The Media. But with us, there's no need for a fill in...Nurse Jeff subs for me and vice versa. YIKES! :eek:

Yeah, but do you have that reeeeeeeeeally annoying wheeze-laugh that Scott Conner (con her?) had?
 
It was interesting times at the beginning of KFYI. From the inside it reminded me of the early days at KDKB. At KDKB we were broadcasting from an old Safeway store. At KFYI from a remodeled crack house. As I recall, KFYI and KKFR had been KJJJ AM-FM, country stations that never made it. We were trying to do talk shows from studios designed to do music shows. The screener/producer would write down the callers on post-it notes and stick them to the studio window. There were a lot of characters and egos: Charlie, Leykis, Stan Major, Mohan, Jamie, 'rubberneck', Mark's dad Jim did an afternoon sports show for a while.
