HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RADIO on Ch 5

Just saw the show on 'Chronicle'... lots of great historical photos. Nice bit on Dale Dorman, Arnie Ginsberg, Gary LaPierre, Ed Perry/WATD, and the polka show on WATR in Waterbury CT. (The latter has been on the air every week for 60+ years!-- and on the same station!). Scott Fybush and Donna Halper both looked real good, with Donna making some very good points about the history of radio. In the heading, there was a shot of ultra-local WDEV-550 in Waterbury VT but little info on that station later. Overall, a great production!

I was afraid I missed - got home too late. Fear not - Comcast Cable has it on the On-Demand channel! Go to the Local tab, WCVB, Chronicle. A very nice piece...
73, de WA1RFF ...-.-

i was told that channel rebroadcasts the program at 1 am???

Very will done the audio from WBZ when the tv tower came down was great

Exactly, it could have been much longer and covered more people, programs, and stations, but good
for what it was. Ironically enough for a show about radio, I HEARD the show before I saw it: I was working and tuned in on a Walkman that has Ch 2-13 TV Sound. Then I just saw it when I got home via videotape...

Didn't know about the "V for Victory" Morse Code sounder for WTIC. I knew they ran it but I always thought it was the first few notes of Beethoven's Fifth. Da Da Da Daaaaaah...

the "V" for Victory

As I understand it, during WW2 they would play Beethoven's 5th to the troops for that very reason!
Perhaps some of the older guys out there can elaborate on this...

Damn! I missed it!!

Neggy, any chance you taped this?????

I missed it too but thanks for the information about OnDemand. I will try and find it there. ;D

I just tried to find it on my Comcast On-Demand, but unfortunately all they had available was the morning newscast from 2/25/07. I checked every menu possible and couldn't find it. I caught the very last segment with "Uncle Dale." Does anyone know any other way of catching this again?

I've been told clips have shown up on YouTube.com...use their search.
I taped it on VHS and had a friend run off a few DVD copies--mailing 2 of
them out (I have VHS and DVD but no DVD recorder)

The opening "statement" of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony actually consists of eight notes: G-G-G E-flat (brief pause)
F-F-D-D. It's only after this that the L-man launches into an exhaustive development of this elemental theme.
