Happy New Year from KXOJ!

Happy New Year!

We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to 2007. We are ever more thankful for you as a listener and we are excited about what we will be able to do for you and with you in the new year!

We'll be kicking off the new year with the KXOJ 30th birthday party! It's a 4 month celebration of being Tulsa's home of Christian music. We'll have some fun walking down memory lane and remembering all of the concerts, events and fun times we have shared, as well as looking at the future and where God is leading us in the next 30 years.

We know that the most important thing on your mind is not how old KXOJ is or whether or not that even means anything to you, so we celebrate not to pat ourselves on the back but to celebrate what God has done through the music and ministry of KXOJ. We spend so much time moving from one thing to the next it's sometimes good to stop and celebrate a little. I read a statistic the other day that most radio stations change their format an average of once every 4 years. Isn't that amazing? But when you think about it there have been a lot of different radio stations even in Tulsa over the years. Some that used to be country are now rock and vice versa, some are talk that used to play music. A lot of Christian stations have even come and gone over the years, but few stations celebrate a 30th birthday of playing the same music with the same message as when they started. I think one of the reasons stations come and go is the ownership changes or the committment level just is not there. It's not a "calling" for a secular company like it is for a Christian company. Most radio stations today are trying to please stock holders, not an audience, and the bottom line determines how long they will wait before trying to jump to the next new trend. However when KXOJ started in 1977 Christian music was hardly a trend. We had to explain the concept to most people we met, and over the years we have seen the music really grow in popularity. All that to say we humbly believe God has been at work in KXOJ for some 30 years now, and with a 2nd generation family owned and operated station, we have nothing but another 30 years to look forward to!

I invite to read more abotu KXOJ and what we believe at a special new website: www.kxojbelieves.com.
Have a great weekend listening to KXOJ!

I also wish you a Happy New Year!

Even though I work for a "secular" radio company, I do attend church once a week. I hope that I am still considered a Christian?

I remember when May's Drug Stores were huge in Tulsa. Med-X and Drug Warehouse too. Then Walgreens came to town. How did that battle turn out?

I think I saw a Mays still open at Pine and Peoria.

Or was it that one on Apache St. right next to the crack house?

Is the Drug Warehouse still open in Jenks? I wondered how it would survive after Walgreens opened in Jenks. ::)

I lived in Jenks 'til late '05...then we moved to Owasso.

But as of the time we left Jenks in December '05, I think that store was still open.

May's, Drug Mart, Drug Warehouse, and Med-X are all owned by the same company now and they have been consolodating their assets for about a year. In fact, there is a "May's Drug Warehouse" at 31st and Sheridan.

KXOJ Listener Advisory Board Survey - We Believe!

Dear Brothers in Radio,

Happy New Year!

By now you may have seen one of the new KXOJ billboards around our city.
You may also have noticed that each one says something different (but not really). Each board uses a different name of Christ. Christ called himself many different things, from The Vine to The Way. He used many different names because he was many things - in fact, He is everything!
Jesus is the divine glue that holds everything together! So when we put up all of the billboards, we wanted to put the focus on Him and who He is, not who we are. We are a ministry trying to spread the good word. This has nothing to do with ratings or money.
We hope they encourage you when you drive by, and that you feel like they speak for you as well. Unfortunately, in today's world there are many who desire to profit from appearing spiritual, and Paul warned the early Christians in his letters that this would happen. We wanted you to hear in very clear terms exactly what we believe, and why we do what we do.

Thought for the day: Where can I go for hope, joy, love, forgiveness, mercy and more? Just where would I go? Here is the fact....I didn't become a Christian to memorize Scripture. I didn't become a Christian to know the Scriptures. I didn't become a Christian to try harder. I didn't become a Christian to become a better father or husband or to have a perfect family.
I didn't become a Christian to develop character. I didn't become a Christian to please God. I didn't become a Christian to be holy. I didn't become a Christian to discover the will of God. I didn't become a Christian to be righteous. I didn't become a Christian to have health or prosperity. I didn't become a Christian to build a kingdom or to be noticed. I BECAME A CHRISTIAN FOR JESUS, AND JESUS ONLY! Only Jesus matters to me. All that has been attached to Him over the centuries couldn't bother me. I am only interested in Him. He is forgiveness, He is love, He is grace, and He is the One who is faithful when I am faithless. He is the exact representation of the Father. Jesus is all that matters, period. In light of Him, I find everything else to be boring. He is never boring. As my life on earth ends, I will only have Jesus, and I will find unending love, compassion unfathomable, depths of forgiveness previously unknown, and more. I used to fear death and feared standing before the Almighty God, but no longer. Jesus stands beside me as Prophet, Priest, King, Leader, Guide, Lord, Mediator and more. I am a Christian, and the reason is Jesus, and Jesus alone.

By the way, I'll be archiving our thoughts of the day, by request, at our new blog, www.kxojbelieves.com

Have a great week listening to 100.9!

Wow Bob! When are you moving the station to Jamestown? Are you bringing Kool Aide for all to drink? Is the station owned by Jim Jones?

C'mon. How did you go from the "family station" to the "really fake into religion station?" You were mass appeal back when my wife listened. Now you are over the top and totally out of touch with the average Christian.

Amazing how you have reacted to a maket change. Too bad you don't have market research and you are flying blind.

As a fellow Christian, you have ran me off. Christian music is okay, but you have ruined a perfectly good radio station.

You lost the focus. I know David and I know he isn't happy. Not good my friend.
