Happy New Year!
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to 2007. We are ever more thankful for you as a listener and we are excited about what we will be able to do for you and with you in the new year!
We'll be kicking off the new year with the KXOJ 30th birthday party! It's a 4 month celebration of being Tulsa's home of Christian music. We'll have some fun walking down memory lane and remembering all of the concerts, events and fun times we have shared, as well as looking at the future and where God is leading us in the next 30 years.
We know that the most important thing on your mind is not how old KXOJ is or whether or not that even means anything to you, so we celebrate not to pat ourselves on the back but to celebrate what God has done through the music and ministry of KXOJ. We spend so much time moving from one thing to the next it's sometimes good to stop and celebrate a little. I read a statistic the other day that most radio stations change their format an average of once every 4 years. Isn't that amazing? But when you think about it there have been a lot of different radio stations even in Tulsa over the years. Some that used to be country are now rock and vice versa, some are talk that used to play music. A lot of Christian stations have even come and gone over the years, but few stations celebrate a 30th birthday of playing the same music with the same message as when they started. I think one of the reasons stations come and go is the ownership changes or the committment level just is not there. It's not a "calling" for a secular company like it is for a Christian company. Most radio stations today are trying to please stock holders, not an audience, and the bottom line determines how long they will wait before trying to jump to the next new trend. However when KXOJ started in 1977 Christian music was hardly a trend. We had to explain the concept to most people we met, and over the years we have seen the music really grow in popularity. All that to say we humbly believe God has been at work in KXOJ for some 30 years now, and with a 2nd generation family owned and operated station, we have nothing but another 30 years to look forward to!
I invite to read more abotu KXOJ and what we believe at a special new website: www.kxojbelieves.com.
Have a great weekend listening to KXOJ!
