Happy new year to you all, 1010 AM Question

Hey Guys:

First I want to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you on the board. Hope you all had a safe and fun evening.

Second I have a question about 1010 AM. I found this on Wikepida and I want to make sure it is right.

Did 1010 sign on in 1970 as WKQT with a country format. And did it simucast 92.3 WCKW in 1973?

Thanks for your help.

T.J.

WKQT, licensed to Garyville, signed on in December, 1970 as a 500 watt daytimer. My recollection of what they were doing goes back to around 1972 (simulcast of WCKW FM except for a Sunday Black gospel music show for 5 or 6 hours). I can't imagine the very small staff and facilities at the time allowed for any extensive separate programming. The original cinderblock building contained one office, two studios, and the AM and FM transmitters were along the hall that lead to the john. The most important thing in the entire building, though, was the ancient Coca Cola machine that only accepted quarters and dispensed the ice cold drinks in the classic little bottles. I can taste it now!
