Happy New Year!

Just popped on to this board (Nashville). Was suprised to see some old friends, co-workers, acquintances, etc (many I knew outside of TN): Scott Bailey, Pat Julien, Chris Roemer (he's da man!), Shadow B. Cruise (Kent) and Bobby Knight.

Is Charlie Walker still around down? Last contact was over 10 years ago (he was Prod Dir at KDF).

Hiya Kevin...
things going well in Gatorville?

Charlie (IIRC) is still over at Citadel...and does LOTS of production (Tennessean...Electronic Express, etc)

Chris,

Still in the GatorNation after more than 5 years. Life is great here; it never snows!

Thanks for the update on Charlie Walker.

Hey! I get to hear YOU on XM when you fill in for House Foundation!

We be streaming at: www.windfm.com

Enjoying your posts (especially the one about R.R. on the overnite shift; I was emotionally scarred from walking in on that...LOL).

Hey Kevin,
Good to hear from ya. I guess your mom told you, but WMRO changed format last year from Oldies to Hot AC. We're still on satellite, but a different network. Lots of the older folks got hot with me when I changed Magic 1560's format, due to 97.1 had changed as well, and there was nobody that was playing 60's/early 70's oldies but WQKR, Portland, now ran by Lee Dorman.
What happen was I was on the phone one night with Lee and he and I determined it was stupid for him and I to compete with each other. I can hear WQKR real well in Gallatin. He kept 1270 Oldies, while we switch Magic 1560 to Hot AC/Current Top 40. Lee and I thought it only made sense.
Well it's been a year now and everybody is now accustom to the fact we are a Hot AC station. After 14 years of Magic 1560 being oldies, it was time for a change. Target demo for Magic 1560 is 35-54. The only thing we kept is the religion on Sundays from 6 AM to 7 PM. I would like to cut the religion back some!
I'm still in the same place, you know where to find me!

Hey Scott!

Nice to hear things are going well.

Occasionally when I visit home, I drive down Blythe St. to see if you are around.

You running ABC? I used to be PD of a satellite programming provider (its now know as "Waitt Radio Networks"). They specialize in localizing content for each affiliate. Pretty neat concept!

Cutting back on religious programming? For older "AM" listeners, christian based music and/or talk can be a hit; the listeners are very passionate.

Ever run into Mr. E these days? Please tell him helloooooo......

Yea, we're running ABC's Hot AC Format. I really love it! We started out with Dial Global's (was Westwood One's) Bright AC format last year when we flipped from Oldies to Hot AC, but the problem with Dial Global's Bright AC Format was on the weekends, the music was not consistent.

I got in the car one Friday Night and heard AC/DC's "Highway to Hell". It shocked me! Why on a Hot AC Format that should that song is getting airplay? That's Classic Rock! My whole plan was just to be playing only the hits. I found out on the weekend's, Dial Global's BAC Format does this "Anything goes weekend". I wasn't a fan of it at all. There were too many oldies, bubble gum-heavy metal, and some hip-hop. Just a mess, period!

When we flipped to ABC in Dallas, we started to sound more consistent! Waitt Radio Networks had contacted me about the time I was unhappy with DG, but I wasn't convinced they were a stable outfit.

I still talk to Howard from time to time. He's changed 88.5 to Oldies almost 24/7, except nights from 6 PM until 12 mid, due to he has to let those kids play that Grunge Rock to keep'em happy. If I see Howard, I’ll let him know you asked about him.

Dan Lopez, PD of ABC’s Hot ABC Format in Dallas has made me extremely happy and the station sounds great! :D
