HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;D Yes, the glass is still half full and we can push forward.. It's still better than 1979 with 20% inflation and 1988's bump in the road... New territory, but we will fall and get up and get through it... Cheers to radioland..

"Skipper T." while playing Patty Smyth and Scandal: "Goodbye To You!" (2008) :( .....Next comes Journey's: "Open Arms" (to 2009)... ;)

As we play the Scott System at WIKY in E'ville..... 8)

Hurry up & make another post! Don't wanna rest on post 666 any longer than necessary! Here's to a great radio year to one & all...I know we'll all do our parts to make the biz viable well into the future!

Sounds like the days of WIKY being a soft AC like it was when Chief Engineer was there a couple decades ago are long gone if they're playing Scandal...

I'm not sure what exactly defines "soft AC" for ya Bob, but I consider it softer than B102.7 and B105.7.

That ain't nothing, they played "U Can't Touch This" a couple of nights ago along with .38 Special and "Eye of the Tiger". My favorite moment is hearing Major Harris' "Love Won't Let Me Wait", orgasms included.

A few years back, Regent tried to take on WIKY with Lite Rock with Less Talk, Lite 105.3. They were airing an 80's retro show on Saturday night that was far from Lite Rock with Less Talk. One night the Top of the Hour ID concluded with Lite Rock with Less Talk, Lite 105.3 into the soothing, swelling guitar note of AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long. Remember, nothing says Lite Rock better than AC/DC!

Happy 2009 to all!!!

Since I left the GM job at a station in Columbus in the very late 90's and returned to Evansville and have remained in the the black hole of not finding a full time job in a decent radio group.. I have had the pleasure of doing news for Clear Channel, when they were in the market, and then weekend fills for South Central (first at former WJPS-Oldies and now AC-WIKY)........ I think WIKY was always in this period a true AC station, except at night..."Deliah" would qualify as fabric-softner-AC and then the 'boogie' you heard was our 'Saturday Night Dance Party' that has been on for several years.... We are pretty much AC down the middle in the weekdays and from Friday at 3:pm to Sunday at 7:pm we do "Flashback Weekends" and really go with a Hot-AC approach.... We extend those hours on holiday weeks like this one! Wednesday thru Sunday, for the new year.... It has really stablized our numbers, as we were in a rut back in 2006.. That's when we pretty much sounded the same as five years prior.. More personality and more substance.... We are fortunate to call ourself; "104-fm/W.I.K.Y." or "Wiky"... No positioner needed.. It would narrowcast us too much.. We play as different things to the wide range of our 25 to 54 target.. One may think we're second-generation gold..Some may think we're classic pop, or variety or music for pets or anything.. But they know 'Wiky'! And it is fun to watch the TV news people follow our four fulltime news hounds around town.. We get their first, most of the time, due to the need of just having a cellphone and micro-recorder.. No camera and support crew needed..... And they do treat the part time and weekend people with respect.... They give us opportunities to do several things that benefit us and the cluster! That's a win-win in my book.... "SkipperT."

Glad to see that "Skipper T" is still doing well on the air. My junior and senior years in high school were spent listening to "Electric 106.5", then "B 106.5" Washington, going to the studio to hang out a couple times, and me and my friend Wes driving to Mesker in Evansville after he called in and won tickets to Henry Lee Summer. And Skip...I did have a bit of a radio career...and am hoping to get back in again sometime soon.

Hack... Great to hear from you! Mitchell is a nice town and had many a friend teach in the school system there.. At least they made 37 four lane to Mitchell! Now, if they'd take it around Orleans and run a by-pass around the northwest end of Paoli.. Then it would leave just that part to French Lick, which is not too bad.. Ha! Is "Mike Shannon" still up in Bedford, working for the Spencers????? I am itching (now, single, again) to get back into this mess call radio, fulltime.... Looking around. I work for a value and you get: Air, Programming, Promotions, Sales, Engineering and Management all in one person.... If it's true, that multi-purposed persons like me are in demand, then there should be some small-regional cluster that would pay the bills with a little left for savings.... One group here talked and then offered less than what I get in my current administrative job at a small private University.... ????? So, what are you doing?????

"Skipper T."

Let's see....where to start. I am working at a hospital in Bedford as a part time switchboard operator. I am hoping to get back on air, but not too much opportunity around here these days. I did go back to BIW in Bedford to do mornings at the news/talk format, working for "Mike Shannon". At first I had free reign of what could air and where, then the tweaking began, then I had no morning show, but I was just the button pushing monkey that just read the weather every 10 minutes and had to be there 6 days a week at 5:30 every day. "Mike" got fired just over a year ago, they did some cost cutting at the stations, which it seems to have been a costly mistake at this point. I have heard that revenue is down to almost nothing, and the group pd had no previous radio experience prior to his employment there. The GM came from the retail world, and they have Johnny Henderson doing some remotes...which boggles my mind. How can a station do remote broadcasts when they have no live air shifts at all ?

"Mike" is actually broadcasting a daily morning show on the net and is pretty well happy as far as I know. He can be found at www.theoldieschannel.com

You would be good to have in Bedford, doing the morning show on the Oldies format. If that happened, I might be tempted to come back to work there again for the 3rd time.

Take care Skipper T !

Sad to hear that the legend of local radio has left the building, for the most part... History has been kind to Bedford and the Spencer family.. Hope that real radio can return to the building on the 58-bluff, some day, soon!

Then of course WYNG or as some called it back in the day "Wang 105", Witz, and who can forget the trio of Wife, Wire and Wish.

And even though no words were actually spelled, I can remember from the 1960's:

WIGO (810 AM)....."We go"
WIBC (1070)"wib-see"
WFBM (1260) "woof-boom"
WNDY (1500) "windy in Indy" (prior to 1260 becoming WNDE)
WGEE (1590) "wee gee" or in the final years of the FM, just simply "w-gee"
