Happy New Year Brotha Shawty and many peace and blessings throughout. In market #5,I predict CBS will flip 107.5, but to a AMP format. Now as far as Radio One here, with a 1.6, I'm hoping they either tweak their urban ac to a more up-to-date sound or flip it to gospel.

WPGC - keep your eyes on this one because there are something interesting changes happening now and more to come. Don't be surprised if the relaunch the heritage urban/crossover station of the DC market. CBS, Reggie Rouse, and Michael Saunders are making some moves.

WJHM (102 Jamz Orlando) - they are another station you guys need to watch.

KKDA (K-104) - the new PD will have to make some serious changes if he wants to keep his job and get it back to the top 5 in the DFW

I'm anticipating some big things to come to things with existing stations in 2011, but if anyone new pops up it will be a surprise.

As far as WWVA goes here in Atlanta, this Clear Channel's 2nd attempt at Rhythmic here. When the original WILD 96.7 flopped, they switched to Urban with KiKi The 1st Lady, Rick Party and Eazy E but I think all them were voicetracked.

Cumulus also maybe up to something since ROCK 100.5 is also at the bottom of ratings.

With exception for the signal, I don't see why ClearChannel couldn't have WWVA at least do as well as WBTS did. Wasn't the first, original WiLD 96.7 even worse with the one signal alone?

And what would Cumulus do? I'm sure if they get rid of Rock, they wouldn't want to do anything to affect WWWQ.....

One good start with improving their rhythmic playlist would be adding the smashing hit, "grenade" by Bruno Mars... That is UNDOUBTEDLY & UNDENIABLY a hit. Not sure how this playlist is being programmed, but just playing most of the big & well known hits isn't going to cut it here. I do like dance music, but.. I'm not exactly sure if the dance mix of "raise your glass" they're playing is helping. I don't mind it, but... it's not all about me. I'll take what I personally like in mixshows.

My Predictions

Charlotte will hopefully get a new urban or a better Rhythmic. Radio One should just try 92.7 as a hip-hop station again because it seems they can't get right will the Urban AC format.

I can see the upstate getting an urban formatted station as well


Im going to keep my eye on the Atlanta stations, but I hope Hot107.9 gets their act together because their playlist looks just like any other radio one owned station playlist when they used to stand out
just my two cents for right now.


Hopfully the new year will bring bettr results

In detail, what are your personal predictions on what might happen to WPGC?

I'm seriously thinking they are going to go full-fledged "urban-leaning" rhythmic crossover like their highly successful sister station WZMX (whom ironically was based off their old format composition). The numbers doesn't lie, PGC is dead last in the urban & rhythmic game in DC. I think they will retool the station to be more hit-driven and less experimental (unfortuantely because they were known to break major urban and rhythmic crossover hits in the 90s). Lil Mo may be bounced from afternoons and the "Cool Out" will be retooled as well to mirror how WZMX's slow jams show operates (80% current slow songs 10% rare contemporary hits heard on rhythmic stations, and 10% actual old school slow songs). Also don't be surprise it goes to 10PM to 1AM like WZMX as well to compete with KYS during the 1AM overnight hours. I'm thinking the gospel show on Sundays maybe bounced as well because it won't fit their new direction. On the old PGC, gospel were only given spins if it was a hit song on the urban charts. Also don't be surprised if Flex and Rane disappears soon as well being replaced for a younger duo since The Q&A Takeover is beating them (after they trained them at PGC for a number of years).

PGC is going to seriously try to get back to overtaking KYS and WIHT (HOT 99.5) on being "that station in DC". I also have a gut feeling of them possibly return to even challenging the UACs of WHUR & Majic again only during middays and possibly late night (10PM-Midnight) to gain traction with 25-34 year old in the market (for revenue reasons).

Well, since we are talking about 2011, we can expect to see more Rhythmics like KXJM, KSFM, and KZON get more Pop/Dance friendly and more broader. But at the same time I would like to see Mediabase and BDS try to update their Rhythmic reporting panels.

I hope PGC gets back to it's urban leaning Rhythmic roots, thats what made WPGC the "it" station in DC. It was always about WPGC, they were the popular station back in the day.

One thing Im happy is about is that WPGC is no longer spinning their power records 100x a week, its more around the 70s, 80s now. So thank you very much to whoever did that at WPGC.

Do you think WPGC will introduce go-go back into it's playlist?

Yeah, both Quick and Angie Ange were part-timers/weekend swing shift jocks at PGC for nearly 4 years. (FYI, KYS late nighter, Deja Perez, was there as well for 4 years under her legal name.) Also Angie was the producer for "The Hometeam with DJ Flexx & Rane" until she went to KYS.

On Go-Go music, that my friend will only come back if WPGC can do perform well in the ratings and revenue. CBS only will allow them to get back to that "hyper-localized" feel if and only when they get major returns on their changes. Remember at one point, WPGC was doing so well that they took the risk of spinning the 2006 single by Chuck Brown "Block Party" on their regular playlist, but that was because Jay Stevens was VP of (urban) Programming for CBS Radio and OM/PD of the station and was the highest revenue generating radio station in the nation.

One of the main problems that led to WPGC's decline was the fact that CBS stripped them of all their "flagship status" and gave it to V-103 in Atlanta after Stevens' departure for Radio One. He was one of the main advocates for the localized and community based programming on the station (like the public affairs show block on Sunday morning instead of gospel music, stopping the music to air community issues, having "Love Talk & Slow Jams" relationship show instead of the usual slow jams slot in the late nights, etc.) However, I think a regular version of "Go-Go 95" may comeback in some incarnation, but only weekend-based.
