Happy Trails, Cledus

The Bull today fired Cledus T. Judd, but co-host Kristen Gates and producer Todd Veal remain, reports All Access.

Quote from Clay Hunnicutt: "We are starting a search for a new morning show co-host. Taking all comers now. Doesn't matter about format."

Can you say... Lite 94.9?

So at this point we are counting hours and not days until we here Christmas music in Atlanta on 94.9 Atlanta's Christmas Station. Nothing beats a little temporary branding for the Holidays. I can only imagine Cletus' PPM ratings every time he spoke.

I do not believe that anyone with Clear Channel Atlanta has any connection to Peach so I doubt that brand is coming back.

I heard a rumor recently it is going to be Movin' with Whoopie Goldberg in the mornings taking advantage of two of the biggest ideas to hit radio in years besides Jack. It is going to be huge. The great thing about the Movin' format is the 5,000 song playlist.

That's two of the new five gone. I think I just heard a collective a hard gulp above the Blue Cross buidling.

In the grand scheme of things, this gig lasted longer than Cledus's 2nd marriage,

So that's what that was...

With an "old-school" (read: AC-leaning) Star veteran coming back as PD, I would imagine the Morning Mess's bowels are all a-twitter right about now.

Interesting that Clay Hunnicutt's post for a morning co-host said he didn't want to hear from just country personalities; he wants airchecks from other formats also.

Re: 94.9

This smells of flip...this same stuff happened two years ago when CC gutted WGST and flipped all but one of their FMs.

WLND/Chattannoga (formerly "The Legend") is all-Christmas under a temporary branding. Classic sign of a flip.

I wonder if whatever 94.9 flips to...who will land there? Kelly and Alpha (formerly of B98.5) need a new job, and their Cox contract (and no compete) should be over with at the end of December.

I wonder if CC plans to do another flip-a-palooza a.la. 2006?

If they don't flip, any chance of getting Rhubarb, or is he still under contract?

If Rhubarb isn't available, Rhubarb Fan is available.

And if Rhubarb Fan is busy, how about CurtisInPA? :D

If they flip, you can bet it will not be a format that Cox is playing. I haven't heard a Bull promo since Cox bought the Athens cluster (with WNGC).

I find it odd that Mr. Ho has not chimed in on this matter. Is it that he is so far the Regular Guys rectum that he hasn't heard the news? Or is he on the high horse with Bert? There is no mention of it on the AJC radio blog either. Either way it looks like he has lost touch and the powers that be realize that talking to him only leads to misinformation? One thing is clear, Kicks has won the battle, which means sh*#del stock should go another 0.000000001 cent. (Don't spend that all in one place Mr. Fareed.) This is just another example of how CC programming philosophy isn't working in Atlanta.

And one question remains....if they keep Kristen as a morning show host, what format could she pull off other than country?

Oh, did anyone else notice that they can update their own webpage.....a.k.a. removing all cletus pictures but yet their myspace link from their own web page show him on the profile photo and other photos of jocks who left the show/station a long time ago.....way to stay on top of things CC.

OOOOh they didn't update their Myspace page. The Horrrrorrrr!!! What will simple-minded people do now? Myspace is so yesterday they probably forgot they had one.

Kristen can pull off any format she wants. She is very talented and under utilized.

She is what Opie and Anthony call a "Hole!" Someone there to keep the boys in check and to be a laugh box for the host:

"Oh guys"
"Now now, don't be mean"
"That is just wrong!"
"How could you SAY that?"

Who would listen to her on her own?
She did however produce Steve and Vicki a while back though. Maybe they are looking to flip and use her in the mornings.

Ugh.... How does CC management continue to fail up? Clay Hunnicutt gets a promotion and what exactly has he done to improve the radio product in Atlanta??? Someone tell me!

That's what's wrong with the Judd Show..Rodney Ho isn't covering it. It's his fault. Maybe Rodney covers TRG and Bert because they have something going on. Cletus was a disaster from the get go. Textbook how not to do a morning show.

Not showing up in the early months every now and then because he was hanging out with bigger names. Audiences love when you tell them they are less important than hanging out with mid-level CMA stars.

How about the fact that he had nothing to say and lived in Cartersville? That's sure to get the locals talking about you. Having trysts with co-workers is a pretty good way to boost morale internally as well. The revolving door cast around him pretty much killed any chances he had of gaining traction.

I don't think there was a single thing that CC and Cletus did right.

CC has Peach/WPCH on an AC station in the Macon market. They still may not bring the brand back due to the connection with 94.9's old Beautiful Music format....where "Peach" became a generic term for BM.
