Happy Trails, "Heroes"

Well, this was bound to happen. The rating had been dropping since the second season and its already become another victim of the "Ugly Betty" factor (in other words, shows that was hot in the first season only to go downhill afterwards). And with the fourth season experiencing its worst numbers ever (even for a very expensive show), it wouldn't be long before the buzz about whether or not NBC will pull the plug on what was once a critically acclaimed hit.

I can understand that NBC wants to make money off the merchandise, but that won't guarantee it another season.

Season one was superb. Season two was a mess. I like both halves of season three.

But this past season I almost had to force myself to watch, in the hope things would get better. The show improved a little later in the season, but was ultimately sunk by too many plot contrivances, and diminished roles for a lot of the characters. I got the feeling the writers had run out of ideas, and were flogging the concept to keep it going just a little longer.

It's official: "Heroes" is history:

So, let's see, we have NBC confirming two of their better-known primetime series have been canceled in one week. I thought Jay Leno's return to late night was supposed to prevent this from happening?

They never said any such thing.

Law & Order was getting less and less revenue (relative to other shows), and like many dramas, wasn't cheap. It's a record-setter (or tier...whatever) as it is, and it was sputtering to a close as it was. No one said Jay Leno was going to keep a 20-year-old procedural running forever.

As for Heroes....come on, with those ratings, it's a no-brainer to end it. Let a few fanboys scream; it's irrelevant.

In a way, I'm sorry to see Heroes go. However, I didn't watch the 5 or 6 episodes after the Olympics. I had them on my DVR but when I started running out of space I deleted them.

I'm not sure when I stopped liking it. While the character of Sylar was cool, he should have died a long time ago. Nathan was a mess; he was good, bad, good, bad, wash rinse and repeat. Claire was a mess too. Like Father, like Daughter.
