Hard Rock to Dallas: We're Outta Here !

But memo to SAT and GOPHER, check places... every friggin tourist attraction has a place like HRC (back in its heyday). Hell, even the Grapevine Mills Mall World has the Dick Clark restaurant. House of Blues will blow up Victory, namely with the Blues Brothers coming and that media cash cow coming with it. so, Victory is out.

GOPHER, I thinks you may be on to something with JerryWorld. Dr. Cluck Cluck is looking for any venue possible to create in Arlington, and a musical entertainment-opolis is just the ticket. Where else are those football drunks going to go that Roger Staubach is trying to bring to town in five years?! ;)

Anyone else find it atad ironic that the people that bash the "soulless, lifeless corporate radio giants" are here defending a company that makes a tourist trap of Rock & Roll artifacts and artists?????

Who's defending? I just merely mentioned they will be back in the DFW area. They ain't that dumb.

I wouldn't bet on them being back.

Not trying to be contrarian, KPLEX, but look at where the majority of the 'big' Hard Rocks are and they're in touristy places...Vegas, NY, London, Orlando, etc...

If you've followed the Dallas Convention and Visitors bureau turnonvers and happenings, they've pretty well admitted that we have diddly-squat to attract 'real' tourists- no beaches, no mountains, no big state park or outstanding "landscapes", and the closest thing we have to a historical place is the triple underpass...

Sure 6 flags and Southfork might get some regional tourists, but people aren't flocking here from across the country like they might other places...

And let's face it- the tourists are the life blood of the Hard Rocks and Planet Hollywoods of the world...

After all, I can probably name 5 better places for a burger than the HRC within a few miles of that site...
And their pulled pork sandwich is great, but if you want 'que, is the HRC really what jumps to mind?

It wouldn't totally suprise me to see them back...but I wouldn't put money on it...

Several Good Points Little one . Houston though is hardly a vacation spot though. The location was simply bad. I only went there once in its 20 years of existence and hated the area. I really feel Addison( and its booming) Frisco,or Arlington around the ballpark and the stadium will have a new Hard Rock. Those areas ( except Frisco at this time)
have a tourist trade. Grapevine with its Opryland could be a good fit as well, but I don't expect anything for at least 5 years.

I wouldn't be at all suprised to see a bunch of the tier-2 HRC's disappear- resturants can be really hard to make money in, and I can easily seeing them cutting out lower-performing locations-

and that's why I really think that Addison, Frisco, Jonestown, etc don't have enough year-round traffic to support a HRC. I think we're going to see Hard rocks in the typical spots and in places that have a lot of convention buisness or enough tourists to keep them busy year round...
NOLA, warm weather places like Miami and San Diego, tourist destinations like DC or Mall of America, etc etc...
I just think you're going to see The Hard Rock Cafe in your Tulsas and Denvers fade away...

Tulsa yes.. Denver no. San Antonio has seasonal tourism as well, and the Hard Rock has managed to flourish well there. Its location location..and where in the area of the city you put it.

I wouldn't say that Addison is "booming"....There are places closing down and starting up every day on that Beltline corridor. I can see the HRC returning with one of their hotel/restaurant combo jobs near the AAC. I doubt it'll be a stand alone restaurant.

I'm telling you, kids... don't rule out the entertainment complex in Arlington. Every large place growing these days has a music/food joint, from Dick's to HOB to HRC to American Bandstand to ... well, you get the idea.

Negotiations are already underway to bring the HR back to the metroplex at either VP or Jerryworld. This won't happen for about two years though. As previously noted, the current property has alredy been sold.
