"Hardball" On Broadcast TV

DCRTV.com reports that earlier this week, NBC flagship WRC/4 had experienced power difficulties that impeded their ability to air a newscast. In fact, it had gotten to the point that on Monday afternoon, WRC simulcast MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews" at 5 PM.

I recall a couple of years ago that WHDH in Boston had to scotch their 11PM newscast in favor of an MSNBC simulcast, due to computer problems that caused technical problems galore.

Back in the day, almost nothing prevented a local newscast from going on the air, short of transmitter or STL failure. Now that computers run the newscast digitally, a single "hiccup" along the line would mean no newscast(s).

Another sign that digital is the wave of the future. ::)
