HARDDRIVE XL PAD Data w/ TRE

I'm curious if anyone else out there deals with a station that runs Harddrive XL? I attempted awhile back to get the PAD data going and had no luck, decided to pick it up again in the winter doldrums of Wisconsin and again can't seem to get data.

For testing, I made a cable with the DB9 on the XDS-1 side wired for Pin 1 (TX) Pin 6 (GND) and send it over to a laptop running Hyperterminal (wired the standard RX/GND pins), and I get nothing.

This sheet seems to indicate it is quite straightforward (I've dealt with probably 50 different serial communication setups in our building!) and I can't seem to get anything to go on this one. Has anyone else tried it? If so, were there any special tricks to getting it going? Thanks!

Station must use the proper pin for the audio port on which they take the program (Applies to PRO4
receivers only. PRO1 receivers should always output to pin 1)

The song time should be used for the station to return to a default/generic message upon completion of
the current song.
