Harmonic Lounge Now Open 24/7

In an act of shameless self promotion, I've reopened the Harmonic Lounge as a 24/7 contemporary instrumental/vocal webstream. Just got it going today. The mix is designed to be more uptempo with lots of variety (what a concept). The sound is excellent even if I do say so myself. That's what $2500 in sound cards and a great engineer with fantastic ears will do for you. I have a long way to go...only about a third of the library is in place...still setting cue markers...working through log and software problems...and I'll get back to the softer Sunday music in about 4-6 weeks. Also, my apps are still being built. Please check it out and let me know what you think. Remember it's a work in progress but it's a start. It's at www.harmoniclounge.com and I welcome all suggestions or comments. Nice to be back in the saddle again and hopefully you'll like what you hear. By the way, you'll never hear the words "smooth" or "jazz" mentioned. Sometimes it neither. Thanks for stopping by the Harmonic Lounge.

Very nicely done, Bill. Terrific looking website. On the verge of a major overhaul myself, but it's going to take time. Best of luck with it. And if your station ends up inspiring someone to come up with a catchy name for this format that sticks, let me know so I can drop "Smooth Jazz" from my website. ;D

Chris....Just call it "Wav Music" and let the listener decide what it is. You don't have to mention smooth or jazz. It's frees up the thought process and let's you play more things that didn't fit before. I'm playing contemporary instrumentals and vocals and that could be anything from Joe Satriani and Robert Randolph (yes I do play one of each) to a very eclectic mix of vocals that range from AC to Jon & Vangelis and my listeners have enough brains to figure out what I'm doing. They will either like it or not and I'm betting more will. It's also a possible way to lower the age demo. We need to look at this time as an opportunity to do things that we couldn't do before because of the "box" we were in and were kept in. That's all changed and we are now only limited by our own imaginations. I don't know about you but I can imagine a lot! Go for it...it's our time and place to reinvent ourselves and create a new future. I was listening to Mr. Smooth's websteam the other day and he sounds old, tired and outdated with the same dog and pony show that we have heard all these years. That was our past and it got us where we are now. That's not our future and it's certainly not mine or yours. I still believe that there's a place for this music and thats it's viable in so many ways. The audience is still there and I'm on a journey to find and entertain as many as I can. The great line from "Animal House" applies here..."Who's with me?"

I'm with ya, Blutarsky! :D It's time for Niedermeyer (Mr. Smooth) and his minions to get out of the way for good. ;D

It will never happen...but then maybe. Here's my imagination. It would be great to have you three simulcast on a terrestrial radio station network or satellite channel or both. Be a dominant or more dominate force with what you're doing. I've heard all of your work. It would just be cool to flip on a radio in the car and hear you. I'm not up on all the apps of today, so that could be possible. I could have listened to the The Wav on a beach over the weekend. Very nice. But I did listen while doing the Father's Day backyard barbecue. Had speakers extended from the computer out on the deck.

It would be great if you guys could pull off a BA kind of dominance. All of you are totally on the mark and awesome! You really need to get paid well for this. Maybe that's coming. The best you you all!

It would be great if you guys could pull off a BA kind of dominance.

That must never happen again because it would mean elbowing other players off the field instead of supporting each other. These guys are both wonderful at what they do and fortuantely not arrogant enough to think they have all the answers. . We have to learn from the past and never go to a place where there is too much power in too few hands again. What the resourceful and talented must do this time around is help others who are not as far down the road yet get their thing started because even though the web is worldwide focusing on your community and super serving that group of listeners may be the best way to set yourself apart from all the zillion web stations out there. Obviously non-locals get to enjoy the ride too.

Bill has preached it for a long time and I am now having to figure it out myself. What is the new platform to deliver the music? My station I have been enjoying broadcasting from was sold out from under us 2 weeks ago. Talk about coming to a screeching halt! CLK you are going to have to embrace the technology to keep listening to the tunes. There are ways to listen without dragging your computer speakers out as far as they will go. If my parents can do it, anyone can :) I have been able to put something together at my house that is going to keep me alive on The .Wav. Actually amazed at how good it will sound. The average listener will never know the difference.

Cat I agree about the local involvement. I have been approaced to do some thinks locally here in town that could potentially be streamed. INDIGO hotels is very interested in this type of music and we have 2 here in town.

Now to the point of this thread. Good Luck to you Bill and to quote a line from Airplane, "We're all counting on you."

Nock

The softer side (what the show and brand started out as) will be back in 4-6 weeks as "Sunday at the Lounge". We'll do it twice from 8am until noon and again from 8pm until midnight eastern. Love that stuff!

Bill, you are doing an awesome job my friend. 8) Really good music selection, just what the doctor ordered for this hot summer. Looking forward to listening to "Sunday At The Lounge". :)

Thanks Kat! I'm grateful that you listen and like what you hear. The music will be an on going search for the right songs that will compliment each other with the correct tempo, texture and instrumentation to achieve maximum time spent listening when you stop by. I understand how many other choices you have and I'm working very hard to make the Lounge everyone's favorite place. My time has been taken up lately with a couple of tech problems and to gear up my sales effort but I have also started to process the Sunday music because I realize how important this part of my programming is, to not only change the pace in the right timeslots but also be able to showcase a whole different side of the format that deserves to be heard. For 2 years the Lounge was this music and even though I don't believe I can do this side of the format full time, I think the 8 hours a week I will devote to the softer side will pay huge dividends and sound pretty cool.

The Harmonic Lounge started in February 2009 as a soft and eclectic 3 hour Sunday show. It was a great way to read the paper with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning or it was the evening soundtrack that went with a good book or close friend and a glass of wine. 5 months after our launch (I thought originally that it would take 4-6 weeks...missed that one just a tad. Stuff happened and just got in the way.) that music is coming back this weekend! Please join us for "Sunday At The Lounge" and you can hear two individual shows. One from 8am until noon and the other from 8pm until midnight eastern. It's our ying to the yang that we normally feature and I think you'll like what you hear. Don't miss the softer side of cool starting this Sunday at www.harmoniclounge.com and thanks for dropping by the Harmonic Lounge.

Bill, our minds must be thinking alike. ;) I was just getting ready to bump this thread up for those who are new or don't usually go past the first page topics. ;D Plus, we need to hear about of the some the great stations that plays this great music of ours. 8) I will be listening this Sunday for sure. 8)
