Harold Camping Returns To The Air

After the world didn't end, Family Radio took all programs with Harold Camping off the air. It stopped airing repeats of "Open Forum" on both radio and TV. The TV network also stopped airing Camping's "Alameda Bible Class." And then he suffered a stroke, so he wasn't able to do any broadcasting, anyway.

Till now. This week I happened to hear him back on Family Radio giving a rambling address. I tuned in in the middle so I don't know how long he went on, but it was at least several minutes. His voice is now more elderly and his speech since the stroke is more labored. I'm not sure he should be on the air, even without the End of The World debacle.

But man, what arrogance. Listeners lose their life savings, he nearly bankrupts the operation, Family Radio is selling off valuable stations in a fire sale, he is held up as a charlatan and false prophet. Yet he goes on the air again on Family Radio? And nobody in the organization stands up to say NO?

I have the impression that Camping is still the dictator at Family Radio. If they have any kind of board of directors, they're probably still nothing but yes men to Camping. If anyone has had the backbone to stand up to him, they've either been fired, or they left on their own. Has there been anyone who was on the inside of Family Radio and left because they no longer believed Camping that has spoken out?

@Greg: What was the rant about? I thought I heard something from him last week rambling on about stations, but the Family station I was listening to was being blasted by tropo from an almost Canadian across the lake from me.

In ANY cult, the founder/leader always reigns supreme. Challenge their authority, and you are "disfellowshipped". Mr Camping is the leader of a cult. There is no other way to describe it or him. Sadly, his cult owns a bunch of radio stations, and it has been a tool of Satan to mislead, discourage, and even destroy the lives of a good number of his followers.

He will answer to God.

Granted, not ALL of the content on those stations was evil or twisted... but HIS content surely was! The Bible defines a FALSE PROPHET and he has already gone above and beyond meeting that criteria.

Agree. I would definitely hate to be in his shoes when that day of reckoning for him does come.

Harold Camping doesn't want Family radio to continue after he dies. So when that happens, all the Family radio stations will be sold.

@radiokid... It was kind of rambling. I found it in the middle. He did touch on aging, which I suppose is very much on his mind. It really is all about him, no matter how he protests that he's just a volunteer.

I thought it was especially arrogant that he had one of the primary announcers on the network record a big closing about this being "a message from Family Radio Founder Harold Camping." I don't know how the staff and board of directors go along with this, even if he appointed them.

IS THERE a Board of Directors? Or just a FIGUREHEAD?

Like any and all CULT leaders, he reigns supreme. Challenge his absolute authority only under penalty of "disfellowshipping". :p

I figure if Camping had a board before his failed predictions they were nothing but yes men who went along with whatever he wanted, and if there is a board now they're no better, and could very well still be the same people who won't stand up to him now. If Camping had any kind of board that would stand up to him they would (or should) have put him out years ago.

What I said should happen has happened in a way, and that was for listeners to pull their donations, which should have happened before the failed predictions. I'm surprised someone hasn't sued Camping, and it may still happen.

I can't help but wonder what people who believed Camping are now doing. Hopefully many got away from his teachings and got into a solid Bible believing church. But I also wonder how many people are still buying to what Camping says and are waiting for the next date for the end, or have gone to some other preacher who claims to be an "end time prophet" who is just as bad or worse. Worst of all is the ones who have given up on Christianity completely. I agree Camping will answer to God for his actions, likely sooner than later.

Well, I heard Camping again today. I was in an area where you can pick up a Family Radio station, so I tuned in. And sure enough, Camping was on the air again, around 3:25pm. He was discussing the need to do family activities and bible reading on Sundays.

At the end, the Family Radio announcer told us that in the Eastern and Mountain Time Zones, we can hear Camping every day at X, Y and Z times and in the Central and Pacific Time Zones, he can be heard at A, B and C times. So when I heard him a few weeks ago and first posted this thread, it wasn't a one-time event as I first thought. He's making the network air his sermons three or four times a day, EVERYDAY. And the people who run the network, the employees, those with access to programming the computer, all those people are going along with this. Not one will stand up to this egomaniac!

I'm not a person who believes every word of the Bible is literal. When I look at all the disparities between the four Gospels, even in the story of the Resurrection, I cannot believe the Bible literally. (Was Jesus at the tomb when Mary Magdalene went there? John says yes, the other Gospels say he was already gone. How can you get that wrong? Was the stone in place when she got there? Matthew says it was in place, the other Gospels say it was already moved. Huh?) But I still think we all need to something to believe in, for our imperfect human minds to comprehend God. Someone like Camping tears that apart. If he could be so egotistical and so wrong, and his staffers who supposedly are religious people, all look the other way when they air his sermons, it damages the credibility of all religious broadcasting.

There may not be any employees at those stations. The ones at HQ are probably loyal... or desperately need to keep their jobs. No matter how one slices it, tho, it is very sad.

I am glad that Harold Camping's voice is off the Shortwave Bands. Imagine all the people around the world who were looking for Jesus when Harold Camping said it is the end of the world and got led astray.

Definitely agreed. The loss of a shortwave frequency may be sad, but when they're only being used by crackpots like Camping or dollar a holler outfits like WWCR, why even waste the energy?
