Harris Oasis Console

Just installed a brand new Harris Oasis console at a mid-sized university in Ohio. Have already replaced two boards. One was the main processor and the other an audio input card. I have had very few occasions where brand new equipment had to be serviced in some way almost immediately. Interested to know what others have experienced with the durability and reliability of the Oasis.

Thank You

RF

When Emmis did a slew of PR&E consoles at Indianapolis the same problems took place. In Indiana we have the Lemon law.

I installed one at a station a couple of months ago. No really bad problems. One odd thing, though. I did notice that a couple of times a minute, there is a very, very slight hum that lasts for a couple of seconds and can be heard over the monitor speakers and headphone if you have very low level or total silence. The hum is barely audible and not audible if the program audio not really low. I haven't noticed anything odd over the air. Maybe I should go ahead and call them instead of just thinking, "that's a bit odd".

Definitely stay on top of it. Too many repairs and you should get another. We have a lemon law in Louisiana as well.

I bought a bad batch of motherboards one time (with the famous Chinese caps). Oh, the joy, when they all started failing at once...

From what you're saying, Harris may have purchased a bad batch of chips.
Stay on top of it. If the failures persist, ask Harris for a replacement console.
In the long run, it will be less costly for Harris to replace the console than to keep replacing circuitboards.

Ok, whos idea was it with the Airwave Digital, on the "Studio Headphones" out, to NOT dim/mute the program when you punch the "Talk Back" button?!? Everything's there to do it like it does the with the "Studio Monitor" outputs but they didn't wire the chip to do that! You'd have to yell into that little microphone so the "talent" could hear you.
Just wasted half a day on a work-a-round.
Thank goodness for RDL StickOn's.

Sorry for the rant. Had to vent.

I agree. Wheatstone/Audio Arts and Radio Systems build stuff that's bulletproof and doesn't fail. I haven't been too impressed with anything PR&E/Harris has turned out console-wise since the Digital Airwave, which I consider PR&E's last real console. The rest of their newer line is just to bizzare for my taste.

I installed two R55E's for a local noncom three years ago. Not a single issue with either one, and they're operated by a volunteer staff of over 40 people.

That's been my experience with R55e's. If a guy wants a great, easy to use analog board, that is about as good as it gets. Ive installed a bunch of them and have had a 0% failure rate also.
