Harry West

Don't know about the Benton thing, but he and Stan did a hour show with Shadow Steele this past weekend that aired on all the Entercom stations early Sunday morning. I caught the last few minutes, very entertaining.

I heard Harry West is back on the air in Benton....Is it true????

Hi Tom,

Harry was back on the air in Benton, albeit 14 years ago. When I was PD of WKXP (which is now a simulcast of Froggy), the owners - Bill Stewart and the late Scottie Young - brought Harry in to do mornings.

And, as far as I know, 95.9 is the only stick in Benton.

Cheers,
Rick

Harry is one of a kind.. one of My favorite intro's is the time he introduced the songs as "yes, my friends, here's Gordon Lightfood and The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald".. Harry always started off a sentence by using the phrase "A Good Idea"... one time Jerry Heller had just finished reading a rather graphic story of a tragedy and Harry, not paying much attention, just intro-ed the next song something like this...
(Jerry) "The accident killed at least three people and injured dozens..." (Harry).. "A good Idea!... Here's Bobby Goldstein, I mean Goldberg and HONEY"

How about UB-Warm and the Man on the Mountain.

Harry is truly one of a kind and I know he LOVEd being on the air. I know he must be sad that he isn't broadcasting someone today. Harry maybe what some people call "old time," but what is wrong with that?

Show open -"Harry West, the Harry West Show"

Yea...Harry Loved Radio....True he loved being on the air. Harry loved the fame even though it was local. Last time I saw him was at the new casino, headed for the free food...Ya gotta love Harry. The reason I ask the question about him being on the air was I was talking to George Gilbert the other night and he memtioned that he heard Harry was doing a stint in Benton...thanks for all the responses...BTW..George is holding his own and sounded pretty good.Keep those prayers coming...Tom

Another Harry signature line was, "he's a nice guy". Went to see Tony Benett last night, "he's a nice guy". Saw Bobby Vinton in Pittston, "he's a nice guy". Introduced Neil Diamond at Sans Souci, "he's a nice guy". Classic Harry.
And as far as Emerson goes, the show with Shadoe Steele was wonderful. When I worked at Citadel, sometimes Stan would morph into Emerson. Stan always did his job perfectly but did so much for non profits when he was at WILK and WARM, well you just can't put a price tag on it. And Harry God bless him, give him an outline, a seat at the head table and a meal and he was off to the races as a toastmaster. "Nice guy that Harry!"

Hi Yonkster, I would like to also say that Harry, Tommy Woods and yourself are also very nice guys. The radio business sure could use more guys like all of you.

Is George Gilbert OK?

Funny, that was my impression of Harry when I met him at a live remote with the WARM van at a shopping center in the early 90's...Nice guy!!!!!, along with the rest of the WARM alumni. I talked shop with Harry that day with the AM in NY I was working at at the time and he gave me some good advice that helped my career. As I said before- The guys at WARM inspired me to work in radio- still remember the hits blasting out of my grandfathers Atwater- Kent radio in '62 ;D

Geez I miss the good old days!!!

Hey silly question- I was looking thru the auction catalog from the Rocky Glen park auction that was in the late 80's....one of the items up for auction was the contents of the broadcast booth...anyone know what was still there or what sold????....another piece of my childhood gone.... :'(
