Hartford-based Pirate Operated from 1973 Mega Concert in NY

The Sunday, 7/30/23, edition of the Hartford Courant includes a front page article about a group of Hartford area radio guys who temporarily operated an AM and FM pirate station from what was, at the time, the largest concert in US history. Summer Jam at Watkins Glen, NY, which took place 50 years ago this week, had a record-setting 600,000-plus attendees. Concert Free Radio operated for several days before and after the concert, providing music and musician interviews along with health, welfare and traffic information to the public and then broadcast the performances by The Allman Brothers, The Band and The Grateful Dead to the masses on the day of the actual event using a direct feed from the PA sound board.

There are some guys making a documentary about the concert and they reportedly filmed interviews with Jim Koplik, the promoter, and with at least one of the pirate broadcasters.

You have to be a member of the facebook group to see that post, but ive seen it elsewhere

I dont know what the article or group says, but one of the guys who ran the station is still a member of the CT radio broadcast community today in a pretty high up position or two
