Hartford PPMs December 2011

The December book ran from 11/10 to 12/7, therefore will include the first two weeks or so of Christmas programming.

A few interesting trends/items of note:

Country 92.5 WWYZ went from a high-share of 12.0 in September and trended downward to this month's by-no-means-shabby 7.2, with cume remaining fairly steady over the past three months.

WRCH got a bump of 2 shares with the first two weeks of Christmas programming, but WDRC-FM lost 2.2 shares running Christmas programming those last two weeks.

WHCN saw a bump of over 2 shares... book anomalies or defecting WDRC-FM listeners for the month?

DRC-FM shouldn't have went Christmas I think.

They messed it up badly with a very shallow playlist of Christmas oldies, many of which you never hear on WRCH. I have a feeling it was fun the first week or so for the target demographic, but burnout on bizarre novelties like Porky Pig's "Blue Christmas" and the Yoopers' "Rusty Chevrolet" sets in quickly when they get two or three spins a day -- in addition to the saturation exposure of songs a lot of people actually know and like, such as "Grandma" and "Little Saint Nick," which the listener could just as easily find on WRCH minus the Yoopers and Porky Pig. It was just a very odd mix that works well as a one-night only Christmas Eve show but not, IMO, as 24/7 programming for a full month.
