Hartford Ratings posted 07/15/22

Quiet book from a meaningless 6+ standpoint. WWYZ rebounds while WDRC-FM slumps, but they probably don't share a great many listeners, so you can't say one is hurting/helping the other. Otherwise, business as usual, with bland but musically dependable WRCH continuing to rule the roost, and the usual suspects continuing to struggle.

What happens to Hot 93.7
Nothing. It's got rhythmic and hip-hop all to itself and can ride out the peaks and valleys of the music it plays. Fantasy GMs like you would never find anyone willing to work for you in real-life radio, nor would your stations be able to retain advertisers with all the capricious format flips.

Rhythmic is down nationally. Notice how the Rhythmic AC's and R&B stations are doing so well? Young people don't listen to the radio, and it's not going to get better.

A generalization usually based on purely anecdotal evidence -- I've never seen my granddaughter/niece/friend's daughter listening to the radio, therefore no young people listen to the radio -- and consistently shown to be wrong by the industry professionals.

New Haven Spring ratings were released this week. I'm not going to list the ups and downs because they always change, and we're talking 12+, Mon-Sun, 6a-12mid. Apparently Audacy and Red Wolf are no longer buying New Haven ratings, because their out-of-market stations are now listed as N/A. Seeing that New Haven is Market # 125, I assume ratings for their out-of-market stations aren't worth the cost.

Audacy and Connoisseur checked out from the Danbury market (202), whose "meaningless" numbers also have been posted. Interesting that Connoisseur would do so, as its Hot AC WEBE has been doing well there, even better (again, in 12+ numbers) than iHeart's WKCI, and iHeart is subscribed to the Danbury ratings. Would this mean that iHeart is actively pursuing Danbury-area advertisers while Connoisseur doesn't think they are worth chasing? Of course, Danbury has its own Hot AC, WDAQ, which tops the overall listing, so maybe there's little advertising money available for a second Hot AC from an adjacent market to grab, no matter how many people are listening to it.
