Rhythmic/urban WZMX was down just about as much as NPR news/talk WNPR was up! I doubt many of the WZMX listeners migrated to WNPR, though. Obviously, the volatile political situations -- nationally with the president, and locally with the failure to pass a state budget -- fed into the nice gain for WNPR. But what did WZMX do wrong last month to plummet like that? More than a ratings wobble there, right, or could urban and minority listeners have been underrepresented in the September batch of PPM wearers?

When I saw how much WZMX was down in the ratings I was like "What the heck happened?". I really can't say. I don't listen to the station as much as I used to. Today's hip-hop music is not as good as the older hip-hop music. I'm not saying that just because I'm 35 years old now. When I was still working last year some of my 20 something year old co-workers and I were discussing music. Those in the group who liked hip-hop music agreed said that WZMX was not as good of station as it was when they were in high school (These co-workers were around 22 years old) because the music was better back then.

As for myself I find myself listening to Philly's Real 106.1 on the iHeart Radio app a lot. They play primarily throwback hip-hop. When I'm listening to the radio it's one of the "Oldies" stations - KOOL 96.1 or The River 105.9

After Entercom takes over CBS stations, maybe 93.7 in Hartford could become part of the WEEI network. 93.7 Boston and Hartford. :)

Without an Urban AC station in Hartford HOT 93.7 is the default Black Radio Station in the market. As such even though they're a hip-hop station and don't regularly play the artists - when artists such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Price passed away it was HOT 93.7 that played those artists' music non-stop.

Gois Media's The Power 97.5 (WKND 1480) in Windsor is very low-power and they play R&B Hits and Oldies, Black Talk Programming, Gospel Music, and Caribbean Music.
