The August ratings came out on 9/7/18

Up: WRCH (by a lot), WHCN, WDRC-FM (by a lot), BOMBA-FM, WFCR (Amherst Mass), and the WRCH Stream.

Down: WKSS, WTIC-FM (by a lot), WZMX, WWYZ (by a lot), WMRQ, WMAS (Springfield Market), The Talk of Connecticut, Kool 96.1/990, and the WTIC-FM Stream.

Same: WTIC (AM), CT Public Radio, WPOP, and the WZMX Stream.

Did the Whale have some sort of contest going during August, or a playlist tweak? While they're still 7th among Hartford's 8 commercial FMs (ahead of uncompetitive WMRQ and not counting non-subscriber WUCS, although I assume that one is getting minimal ratings with its partial coverage of the market), this is as close to climbing past one of the Big 6 -- only 0.7 behind slumping WWYZ -- as DRC-FM has been since flipping to classic rock.

The Whale is always doing a contest of some sort. During August along with New London Market sister station Soft Rock 106.5, The Whale ran a contest called The Name Game. 3 times a day the station(s) would announce a name of a listener (who submitted their name online) and they had 10 mins to call the station back and they could win up to $1000.
