Hartford Summer Numbers

Good gain for "Classic Hits" WDRC-FM in the first summer book, but a downward trend in the second. This can't be good because traditionally DRC-FM as an Oldies station has made some nice gains in each of the summer books over the years.

I always thought of it as a "nostalgia effect." Summer naturally brings out some good memories of your youthful years and you gravitate towards a station that enhanced those memories.

WPHH still maintaining their position as the lowest rated local FM with the WDRC-AM/WMMW-AM combination very close behind.

Buckley should flip their formats...make DRC-FM a talker and put real oldies on their CT AM group (Hartford, Meriden, Waterbury, Torrington.) Wouldn't that shake up this dull market!

So DRC-FM is a classic hit station and no longer an oldies station. What are they like the river now?

Also about WPHH, I think if Clear Channel wanted to bring in a Hip Hop station they should of put it on 95.7 and move Kiss to 104.1 same calls and everything. 104.1 Kiss FM. Maybe it would of worked better to get ratings.

Why? I mean whats the reasoning? Do you think 104.1 Kiss FM sounds better than Kiss 95 point 7? It really makes no sense at all.

WATR 1320 in Waterbury is now Good Time Oldies from 1p-6a. <P ID="signature">______________

Maybe if they put Connecticut Public Radio on 92.5, Move WWYZ to 105.9, bring WHCN to 95.7, put Hip Hop on 100.5, Move WCCC to 96.5, and WTIC-Fm to 102.9, things would be better...
Then again, there is reality.

Why would moving Kiss to 104.1 be a better ratings move?

Thats what I was asking!

There's no point to flipping these two station's frequencies. CHR has always been on 95.7 (well since '84) so moving the station to 104.1 to bring in hip-hop on 95.7 would alienate Kiss listeners. The only times you would flip frequencies would be to put a well-performing station on a better signal, or help a format or station target a particular area. 95.7 and 104.1 have just about exactly the same coverage pattern. Flipping frequencies is not the answer.

Personally, I think that an immediate ratings booster for Power 104 would be for them to AX the Wendy Williams show. It's HORRIBLE!

Truly unlistenable...and I do not understand why she has a syndicated show. From what I can tell, most stations that carry her are flagging. Certainly true in Hartford, and WBLS is not doing well in NYC either. Yet, she gets clearance on more stations!

Power actually has the better music mix - IMO - but is simply a dead spot every afternoon. Dump williams and watch ratings improve...

Only reason Clear Channel did that is to save money so they don't have to pay a DJ to work those hours. At least Hot 93.7 is LIVE and Local with a DJ in the noon hours playing music instead of Wendy.
