Has any Seattle radio host ever admitted to smoking Crack?

I’ve sort of wondered if I’m listening to somebody who either is on Crack while on the radio or has ever smoked it before or recreational use of it in their spare time.

I doubt it…at least nowadays. Cocaine was a helluva drug back in the 80’s though (or so I heard…)

Now I have seen some pretty mean crack dancing on 3rd and Pine and thought “what if somebody gave that man a radio show…even just for an hour a week”?

I know that this post is more of a joke than a serious thought, but Jack Stein (Spike O’Neill’s co host) has talked extensively on the air about his drug issues in the past. While I’m not a regular listener of that show, his story is pretty interesting.

Radio personalities are pulled from the general population. The math tells you that pretty much any drug that can be ingested has been ingested by someone in Seattle radio history, likely in the same proportion as the general population. Adding in the stressors that come with radio, the isolation that can happen with the odd hours, and my anecdotal view that radio can draw some real characters with serious problems, the percentage might actually be higher than general population numbers.

So, to answer your question, yes.

Pat O'Day (for example) pretty much told us he did ALL the drugs back in his glory daze. Fortunately for him he was able to get cleaned up and have a healthy and long life after.
