Has anyone complained about interference in the 1604/I10 area (UTSA)??

I'm pretty sure the people around the UTSA perimiter for over a decade has noticed taht you can't even get certian LOCAL stations in this area. An example of where it's real bad is in the College Park neighbourhood adajacent to UTSA. 101.9, 99.5 are the worst when it comes to picking them up. Sometimes when you put it on KISS you get five or six stations playing at the same time on this frequency. This also occurs on a dead frequency. Don't believe me? Tune into a random frequency like 97.5 or something and you'll notice. This doesn't occur all day, at night I can get stuff from Houston (103.3) or Victoria (107.9)or Corpus (99.9). I just moved to this side of town a year ago but I've noticed this problem for years since I am a student at UTSA. Any thoughts on why this happens and/or if anyone is doing anything about it?

Eh what does it matter? San Antonio radio in general sucks. It's lame, corny and very repetitive. I stream radio from other parts of Tx and the world anyways.

Re: Has anyone complained about the PIRATE in the 1604/I10 area (UTSA)??

Most of this interference is from the pirate on 101.5. It can block 101.9 and will even mess up 99.5 and 102.7. The only reason it doesn't affect 101.1 is that KONO is on the Galm tower a short 5 or 6 miles away @ 100KW. This is one of those "Radio Free Austin" dickweeds that think they have special rights and no responsibilities to the listening public.

The pirate is actually located in or at least very near College Park. The FCC is “aware” of them but if you feel strongly enough email the FCC yourself. You also might want to drop both Clear Channel and Cox a note and let them know about the problem. The more complaints the FCC gets the better. They won’t act unless someone complains. In fact it has been awhile since I've emailed about this. I might just send in one myself.

Good Luck.

Part of the problem is distance. Most of the full-power fm's are on the other side of town, near Elmendorf. There's also the terrain. UTSA is in one of the highest parts of the county. Lensing and ducting from the temperature inversions and boundary layer winds can cause signals to skip and flip. The off-channel signals may be due to resonance from all the beams and rebar in the I-10 1604 interchange. I kinda doubt the pirate is causing all the problems.
Too bad you don't like S.A. radio. I always get a kick out of KSYM. KEDA used to be a favorite too. As far north as you are, you should be able to get KUT and KGSR from Austin. They're good. And at night, try 1060 am, Radio Educaccion from Mexico City. It's different, for sure.

San antonio radio realy isnt that bad, I'm DX'n it from South of Austin, the only problem is the hiphop channel is very repeative, but then again so is Hot 93 & 104.3, which I dont understand how those stations get such high ratings is what realy gets me. I dont see how people can listen to the same song twice a hour, but oh well, in all general I think san antonio has a pretty decent amount of radio selections.

San Antonio has a great variety of stations. It just depends on what type of music you like.

I have no problem with pirate broadcasters as long as they don’t cause interference to licensed stations as this one at 101.5 has. I believe the other pirate you are referring to is at 97.7 and while he’s been there for years he is not causing any interference at the moment. The FCC knows he is there and so does Univision who holds a CP for that frequency. No big deal.
It becomes a problem when pirates splatter over several channels without regard to neighboring stations or the average Joe listener trying to hear those stations. 101.5 is second adjacent to two existing stations and not only interferes with them but with 99.5 down the dial. This is inviting trouble. To be blunt, only a moron would park their pirate station on a second adjacent and not expect problems. Of course you have had that experience in Houston haven’t you? Isn’t that why the FCC shut you down there?

Re: Has anyone complained about the PIRATE in the 1604/I10 area (UTSA)??

I dont realy have a problem with them either, but there is a Priate talk station in Gonzales which is on 101.3, it kills out 101X & KONO. I gues not enough people (if any) listened to either of those stations in Gonzales to realy care. <P ID="signature">______________
