Has anyone else noticed the music change at 99X????

A few weeks ago when I tuned into 99X I noticed they had added much more harder tracks to their playlist. They added artists like avenged sevenfold, metallica, godsmack, breaking Benjamin, and some other stuff. I personally liked this because it expanded their regular playlist which was a little limited and was beginning to be tiring. But what do you think about it? Yes no maybe so?

I haven't been listening lately...only to the retro show...but I do recall hearing a Metallica tune.

Doesn't sound good to me...nor does it sound right but I'm just a listener and not in the biz. They went this heavy-active-rock route a few years ago which seemed to drive the longtime listeners away. It doesn't go with the "alternative" genre.

If it were me, I'd be going back to the stuff that 99x played during their golden years which WASN'T getting play on every other station 6-8 months later. Targeting the next gen of "alternative" is really the only way to stay true to being "alternative" ...BUT, I know it's not really about being different than the other stations in town. Stations have to pay the bills and today's station ownership aren't in the biz because they love the music.

Sorry...I'm bitter today.

Haha no worries man. Yeah I was ok with it until I heard metallica, that's when I got a little worried. I read about that too. That it really drove some of the listeners away. In my opinion, now, I don't think it really matters too much because it seems as if Cumulus doesn't rely on them much for income(since their signal was low). Just only to fill in the alternative format gap in Atlanta. But their not as cutting edge as they used to be... A bit too mainstream if you ask me. I liked it when they played bands before anyone. But that's just me.

Yeah, I listen to 99X all the time, and a few weeks ago they started adding in some harder Active Rock stuff - seems like they've since moved back though (except that they keep playing Porn Star Dancing, which IMO sticks out like a sore thumb)

Alternative music is in a boom now - Cumulus needs to put the freaking station back in STEREO on 100.5!!! It's not 2008 anymore!!
