Has anyone ever?

Heard a spot today that ended with "Tell them Terry Bradshaw sent you". During the course of a day we hear spots that end that way and it probably just goes over our heads, although this one got me to think. In the history of the world if anyone ever walked into a store and said.."so and so sent me".

I think they probably did so back in 1950s and earlier, particularly when the requester was a local personality. But I agree, I don't think modern consumers carry that kind of referrel into the commercial establishment.

If it said "tell em Terry Bradshaw sent you..and you will not pay anything" it might work

Exactly Jeff. During my LVU days many local advertisers who had limited ad budgets (more like limited money as there was no budget) would tell my sales people to include..."mention this ad and get your 2nd cup of coffee free". My reply very similar to yours. Mention this ad and get dinner for 2 free. All comes down to the offer.

I wonder how good a discount one received in the 1950s for DeSoto automobiles, if they said "Groucho sent me". ;)

Only if you add..."last night I shot an elephant in my pajamas..how he got in my pajamas I don't know"

I remember when back in the days of the Devil Rays then-pbp man Paul Olden had a spot for Brandon Dodge IIRC. At the end of every one of those he would add, "...and tell 'em Paul Olden sent you." In certain circles that became kind of a running joke, but in truth it still happens every now and then. I think Duemig had a "tell them the Big Dog sent you" line for an advertiser in the recent past. Come to think of it, I think Ron & Ian do the same for Ackerman Jewelers...

Yes! All the time - and proud of it.

In this day and age where personality takes a walk behind the car (as opposed to the back seat), I think it means more.
