HAS ANYONE NOTICED

That it has been WEEKS since we have talked about contemporary content-related issues in this market?

Discussions seem to revolve around transmitter location, quality of signal, new license allocations ... old formats .... but not "what's happening now" on the stations.

I would think that is a HUGE hint as to why the industry faces the challenges it does.

Seems like business a usual on this site. Kcmq or whatever it is sucks now and now one cares about it anymore. I do like the fact that talk about AM radio is on the upswing here. That must mean AM radio is coming back!!!

Yeah I don't know if anyone got the memo but radio is super boring now. I guess that's the new entertainment.

VT, who owns who, who got fired, who is playing more currents this week? Snore.

Yeah there is a reason the audience has been leaving the building for a while.

Nope. No BIG format flips (KZIZ does not count because the signal is so crappy) and everything sounds the same. Yes, 96.5 is still playing AC/DC. Yes, 95.7 is still playing ELO to death. Yes, 104.5 sucks. Yes, KRWM is playing Adele to DEATH...

Lot's to make fun of in local radio with the jock-less JACK, KMCQ, the Clear Channel stations that are syndicated or voice-tracked except one shift or so a day. There are bright spots. KQMV is live, local and handily beating KUBE and KISS. Their morning show is quite good at times. KISW's afternoon show is one of the best and always entertaining, same with John Clayton on KIRO-AM in the afternoon. KPLZ, though about to be sold, still has one of the best AC morning shows around and still pops in some interesting songs along with Adele. Bob Rivers is not what he was, but still has good moments and Danny Bonaduce is coming into his own in the ratings, though not my personal favorite. Dave Ross sounds as good as ever in mornings on KIRO-FM. KOMO does a solid job of all news radio, though that expensive format may not last with new owners, too bad. I find myself listening less and less to satellite radio and Pandora these days and sampling different local shows. (The key phrase is local)

There, it is not that hard to find some things to be proud of, in the midst of a lot of dull radio Seattle does have it's gems. Do I miss Dave N calling Mariner Games, sure. Do I miss the old KMTT, sure. Still lots of entertaining options that get solid ratings in Seattle. For those that say radio is dead, take a look at the Arbitron report last month showing for the first time in a decade radio listening is actually going up by a million or so. Pandora is going down. Hmm.

You can only go so far with "radio sucks" and the topics you correctly point out. If my bosses are on my butt about revenue or personnel issues, the last thing I'm going to do is read 13 pages about Rebecca Stevenson's dismissal and about the new morning anchor at KOMO TV, let alone a couple of pages on Smooth Jazz being high up on the AM dial that

There are a lot of programming things to talk about. There have been many changes in country music, even more in contemporary, how does classic rock evolve, what about rock today, how does news survive in this information age, what about sports?

And if you work at Clear Channel, would you want to contribute to a place where it's always "Cheap Channel" or taking shots at San Antonio? What's the incentive there?

As is with every user contribution place, such as this board, it's only as good as the content.

Yeah there is a reason the audience has been leaving the building for a while.

Smooth jazz left the building in december of 2010 and hasn't come back. the reason kwjz changed to klick was the advertizing demographic they wanted but didn't receive. they were running advertizing that was geared to a younger audience when the music listeners were an older audience. also they changed cause they said they really weren't a true smooth jazz type station. they would play things like Phil Collins, Nora Jones and even Bill Withers which isn't smooth jazz in the first place. so they made the change over to another top 40 or hot ac type station like we need another of those around.
