Has Clear Channel Bought CW16 Yet?

Just wondering if Clear Channel and WHAM-TV have bought the Rochester CW16 yet. The reason I am asking is because channel 13 will be having a special one hour election night coverage on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 on The CW. Just wondering how this would be possible if Time Warner still has control of it, cause wouldnt they let R News use the channel instead?

The Democrat and Chronicle reported the sale in today's edition (11/13/06). Now Clear Channel owns two TV stations and several radio properties in the Rochester market.

Channel 13 make mention of it today in there 5:00 PM Newscast today. They also said starting on Tuesday you can watch a first hour simulcast of 13 WHAM News This morning on CW16. It is intereiting to note CW16 is off the air right now as i speak. Its just showing a black screen and the logo bug in the corner. Could they be switching over or something?

UPDATE: I just read a press release about the sale on CWRochester.Com and 13wham.com and some of the things it said was the call letters will change to CW-WHAM, and they are planning "new local programming for 2007". Hmmmm does this hint to a possibly 10:00 PM newscast so we can stop watching the News 8 Now at 10:00, i MEAN Fox First At Ten lol. I must admit i am very excited. Channel 13 is moving to bigger and better things.

The big question of the day - WHY? As if so many viewers waste time with the dumping ground of picked through leftover syndicated junk nobody else wanted and program length ads that litter CW16's schedule throughout the day. If I want to watch WHAM News... I'll watch WHAM, along with everyone else. I could see this if they time shifted it, but a live simulcast is pointless.

Rochester has its first fake callsign jumbler. I know this stuff impresses us... after all those legal ID's make us feel good all over, but the average viewer isn't going to care beyond the channel number. It's also one of those rare instances where they are making callsigns longer, not shorter. WHEC is NBC10, W-H-A-M is "wham," and it's Fox 31, not WUHF. But now it's "C-W--Wham?"

For most CW viewers, 16 is all they care about to find the one or two CW shows people find worth watching. They sure aren't hanging around for Geraldo At Large.

I've seen it on NERW this week that WHAM-TV (channel 13) a former ABC affiliate is now CW. I wonder if ABC would move somewhere after WHAM-TV dropped its affiliate with ABC. I guess according to the WHAM-TV website, CW in Rochester is on the DT side and ABC is on the TV side. I'm not sure.

You misread it. Could you imagine an ABC affiliate saying "buh, bye" for the CW instead?

What has happened is that WHAM has "purchased" the pseudo-cable-only CW outlet shown on Time Warner Cable here in Rochester. They are going to brand it with both CW and WHAM. The only good thing that will come of this whole thing is that WHAM has agreed to carry CW on their digital sub-channel so those who do not have TW cable can watch it.

WHAM remains an ABC affiliate.
