Has Clear Channel Providence gone classic rock crazy?

We already know that 94 HJY plays a mix of classic rock and new rock, but why are B101 AND Coast 93.3 going heavy on classic rock as well? This doesn't make any sense. Why have three stations under the same ownership playing the same kind of music? Here's my take on this. B101 should focus on the 60's and 70's soul, dance, and pop music. Coast 93.3 should focus on the 80's, 90's, and new pop and dance music leaving 94 HJY the only local choice to hear the harder classic and new rock. <P ID="signature">______________

I wonder how long before HJY starts to skew a little younger by eliminating some of the classic rock that's moved over to B101 & mixing in more new rock that might be looked at as alternative & even more 90s music. Right now they're pretty mainstream. I know the station does well, but B101 was doing well when they made the decision to go after a younger classic hits audience.

I think you can kiss all but the very well known rock-based 60s goodbye on B101, being essentially a classic hits station that also plays a good amount of 70s soul like WROR in Boston. They're still going back to 1964 but it's Beatles & Beach Boys stuff.

As far as Coast, the music has really improved & I'm actually listening more than I used to, not being a big AC fan. I agree with you on Coast though. I'm not sure I want to hear The Eagles & Steve Miller there. I'd like to see Coast pick up listeners that are growing out of PRO-FM, especially since as a CHR station they play mainly currents & there comes a point when listeners reach an age where they stop wanting to be exposed to new music constantly & look for more familiarity & that means you go from listening to CHR to AC where you'll hear a limited amount of new hits but more of the music you grew up with.

Then again I really don't think the average listener picks up that 3 stations in the same cluster play some of the same songs
