Has Fly hit some turbulence?

Just saw the new Trend that came out today. Fly was actually down two tenths of a point. Could Dayton be tiring of Adult Hits already? Is a 5.8 all the higher Fly will, well, "Fly"? Also, ML can't be at all happy with the 1.1 that Kiss Country received.

I dont know if I would give up my flight tickets yet. That of course is Phase 1, which is just a sample. Adult Hits tend to fly better in Phase 2. Not always, but you never know.

Mix was also down a bit. I think if anything, Mainline should be happy with how much money that thing is bringing in...whew~! The bank is shocked too!

I'd say that 5 point anything is a far cry better than what they were getting as Z-93. Mainline is doing a great job so far, and Steve Weed will improve it.

kentuckymedia is right on track... The “Adult Hits” format DEMANDS that there be a “PHASE TWO”!!! I hope Mainline’s up for it and doesn’t simply view “Fly” as cheaply self-sustaining.

Steve will continue to do a great job with the station. And the comment about it doing better than Z93 had in years said it right. Demanding a Phase II. Now your funny!

They absolutely shouldn't be worried about anything right now....and we've yet to have the addition of air staff, which if Weed picks and works with with the right people, should be even more of an improvement of the overall sound of the station. I've already noticed something pretty cool, and that's the addition of some pretty clever imaging. I'd imagine that's attributed to having Weed in there and spending some time writing some pretty good stuff.

I believe you predicted in your post [reply #1] that “Phase 2 would be better... So WHY is my statement so “funny”? Is there not a Phase 2-3-4-and so-on in any successful station? Currently, “Fly” is essentially a near-juke with the predictable playlist culprits [and little else]... If they hang with that – they’ll become yet-another burned-out “Arrow” - remember that long-lived format, ky? With the exception of some 80s repertoire – they are essentially a decade-latter-recycled equivalent. I hope you are being “humorous” in your reply... IF NOT – I just love you “radio experts” who are always quick at critique, and...

When I started this thread, I wasn't thinking about when/if they get a "Flight Crew". I'm getting impatient.
Besides the newer imaging, i'm getting quite burned out on their play list. How many times do we have to hear "Driver's Seat"? I've been finding myself listening to either Mix 107.7 or Mix 97.1 more and more in the car and at home. Fly will never play currents or newer music(Welcome to the "Jack" way of thinking, just think if a "Bob"-formatted station came to Dayton to compete with Fly), which is OK, but play something different instead of the same tired 300 songs we've heard since the November launch.

I guess I don't listen to them enough to hear all the repetition, but I can tell you they are still going about this whole Jack-type format so much better than many other similar stations and giving themsleves a fighting chance at some longevity. I just heard a jack-like station the other day via streaming that was difficult to listen to....way too many different styles of music back to back, trying to be everything to everybody...dare I say the over-used "trainwreck" verbiage!

I think Fly is going about this the "safe" way, but no, they can't continue to fly the course they're on and expect the station to be relevant for too long. They've got the groundwork laid now and have momentum....let's see what they do with it.

Hippo -

I was finding myself to be both Humerous, as well educated. Adult Hits stations "TEND" to fare better in Phase II. I dont know why that is, but if you were to tabulate all of the Adult Hits stations in the county and look at Phase I compared to Phase II a "majority" do better in Phase II. Thats a scientific thing, not my opinion.

Wow Greg, why do you try to pick a fight? Lets see here, since you are completely WRONG and trying to make me look like an ass. I am not mistaken if I said 1.2 million. Check your facts again.

No fight intended, I just wonder why you're such a cheerleader for Mainline.

And the link in question is in my earlier post.

I'm noticing a LOT LESS repetition on Fly over the last couple of days...It is sounding MUCH better. Steve must be working on putting more music into rotation. I know they have enough CDs in their music library(From the Z-93 and WING-FM days) to make it happen.

Heard a song I haven't heard in forever on Fly Saturday night around 7 PM or so..."Mr. Wendal" by Arrested Development. Last time I heard that song on the radio was back in 1993 when Fly was Z-93. Steve needs to keep up the "Oh, wow!" factor. Only bad thing I can say is I noticed that the end of the song was cut off...Also heard "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince on Fly last week and the intro was cut dramatically. I hope this isn't the start of a trend(Not the Arbi- variety either lol). ;D
