Has KNX 1070 AM changed format?

What's on KNX, 1070, Los Angeles? Is it still simulcasting the KNX-FM, 97.1 news format?

The report below popped up in another group. This "report" (written in part by 'AI tools') asserts that KNX-AM has dropped the news format. It has no confirmation. If yes, what's replaced or replacing news?

An LA-area AM SDR tuned to 1070 is playing KNX (with "KNX 97.1" idents), in parallel with the web stream. This AI-written "article" is nonsense. Often, sites now have AI "reading" forums and social media sites and writing completely automated articles based on the info they scrape, as seen in this recent incident where a group on Reddit decided to prank an AI-written news site by posting a thread of completely fake info:

So far, when Audacy puts the format of a "major" AM station on an FM simulcast, the AM doesn't change.

WINS 1010 and WINS-FM 92.3 New York still simulcast.

WFAN 660 and WFAN-FM 101.9 New York still simulcast.

KNX 1070 and KNX-FM 97.1 Los Angeles still simulcast.

WBBM 780 and WCFS-FM 105.9 Chicago still simulcast.

KCBS 740 and KFRC-FM 106.9 San Francisco still simulcast.

KYW 1060 and WPHI-FM 103.9 Philadelphia still simulcast.

There are a few examples of lesser AM stations, previously in a simulcast, switching to Sports Betting, using the BetQL Network owned by Audacy.

WJZ 1300 Baltimore

WXYT 1270 Detroit

Will Audacy someday switch its big, clear-channel AM stations to Sports Betting? Considering how the once invincible KGO San Francisco has dropped off the radar after switching to Sports Betting (currently with a 0.0 in Nielsen), probably not.

Sports Betting as a format is about sales, not ratings. You can monetize pretty much everything on the air - the station is one long infomercial for sports betting companies. It doesn't get a big audience, but it's cheap to produce and the audience it does get loves throwing its money away.

Usually news break is spot on. This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this from them. This is why journalism and AI should never mix

Some formats out perform whatever ratings they get. That's true. But when you are a 50,000 watt clear-channel station getting a 0.0, I'm not sure how you monetize that. You have to have at least SOMEONE tuning in to get them to spend money. A station playing Swiss yodeling would likely get a .1 or .2.

i thought kgo fell off the radio a couple of years ago?

As this one unravels, I'd like to know the source of the false news story. Was it human error, or a false AI-derived article.

If it was AI, which of the AI sources did it come from and how did the report get generated?

As AI is rolled out and further developed, will we be seeing more "fake news" and inaccurate reports?

The site that published the column, Newsbreak, uses an AI powered software to scan Reddit for stories.

The bot saw this post which was used to create the story ( )

There are thousands of bot created "news" sites already, usually which are taking content in english converting it to a foreign language and then back into english so they read almost incoherently.
