Has the economy squashed station give aways and prizes ?

Who doesn't like to win stuff???? But lately I have not seen or heard any major Local / station give aways? Is it the economy or poor sales people? Major giveaways build cume but mostly extends TSL which is what we all want. :)

Hard to do many giveaways when you're VT'd or jukeboxing it

For me it's the opposite: I've heard plenty of stations give stuff away.

Most of the CC stations only make reference to obscure online contests and junk like that, but G105 has been absolutely all over the free stuff this entire summer including now; from purses and show tickets to lunches and films. With radio and the economy in its current form I'm not sure how they manage.

But I've heard contests on Mix and even 96.1. You probably won't win anything from the River or 1061.

It's kind of funny with us. I'm in Roanoke Rapids last year when we had our sales goal for the month on the first day of the month, we could not get nothing to giveaway! We had a hot streak in the spring that was it.

This year sales is down a little and we have been giving tickets and other prizes away NON-STOP since April and the way it looks now we're covered through the end of August!

So in my case Bad Economy means more to giveaways. My GM hates it but the listeners Love it!!!

YEAH!!!!!! How bout some big screen TVs or boats or cars or a coke and a single, like we used to give away at the hops??????????? It's not soo HARD!!!!! ;) ;) ;) ;)

Seriously, a boat with a juke box on it! Somebody stop me!@!!!! :-* ;D :'(

93.1 The Wolf in Greensboro is giving away a pick up truck this summer.

I remember The "All-New" Buzzard back in the day when they would try to give away $10,000 a day. You had to call a toll-free number and be the 100th caller, too bad 250 other stations were in on the promo, too.

The only stations I know giving away prizes today are Rock 92 and Majic 94.1 .

Interesting thread RealRadioPlayer! I think it's because most program directors are scared to death of clutter. They're afraid it will be a tune-out unless it's a really big prize and right now, not too many advertisers are willing to pony up something big. And, several stations are in a battle with competitors, like TQR and PAW, and MKS and KZL, and VBZ and KRR. so they can't afford anything that will cause tune-out. If the PAW gives away a truck, that will be a pretty big deal. I also think it's a valid point about the VTing. Lots of that going on.

So what do you have to do to win? Drink water till you die?
;D Why do they call 'em "Pick up Trucks"?

I remember cak in the daze at some stations you had better be careful if you said the 12th caller to win, because you might not get 1 call...hahahaha Brings back memories...Of course at APE, when we ran the "Ultimate" LAST CONTEST..It jambed ATT everywhere!
