Has the KHZ Network gone away?

WAMD Aberdeen has been mostly OFF for the last 2 weeks and the reports of WKHZ Easton being gone make you wonder if the network has bit the dust? This would leave WYRE Annapolis as the only station. Anyone know? Or does anyone even CARE?

WYRE was also off the air for some time. They seem to be back up, though. I believe KHZ is still operational. You can check them out on their facebook page.

I will sometimes; but only because I like to play with the radio while I drive. I never quite fatigued out what the purpose was for that network, if it had one?

I will too sometimes just to see what's going on there! But besides radio geeks like us and maybe the owner I don't know who listens to these stations, really.

Any news on this? The three stations still seem to be up and running with the Top40 format but no ads or social media activity whatsoever.

Two weeks ago driving to the shore Easton's WKHZ 1460 was Spanish language programming. I guess that reduces the KHz network to just WYRE and WAMD? WYRE was on with KHZ programming but with weak and distorted audio.

Summer 2017 update of the KHz network:

WYRE 810 - at least today was off-air, Frederick, MD's WWFD 820 and Camden, NJ's WTMR 800 were coming in good in Annapolis with this off.
WKHZ 1460 - still Spanish language programming.
WAMD 970 - while driving through this one had a Aberdeen IronBirds baseball game going when I checked.

I was in Annapolis this past weekend and WYRE is still off. No STA filing and no transfer of ownership - is the facility even still there? I lived there as a kid and WYRE was awesome. No translator filing either, but not sure if anything is even available that close to DC & Baltimore. Anybody know anything about this one? Tower still standing?

I drive frequently in that area, both 970 and 810 were on the air with the habitual music format, this was 3 weeks ago for 810 and yesterday for 970.

December update, 810 was off last week when driving through the area.

I checked to see if any of the KHZ stations applied for FM translators, none did. Pretty sure 1460 could find a frequency, not so sure about WYRE and WAMD.

WYRE 810 has filed an FCC application to go silent, citing a dispute with the tower owner. That can't be good ...

WYRE 810 is back on, nights too (though they shouldn't be)! At the moment rebroadcasting WRNR FM. My guess is on long enough to keep the license alive (September 20th was the deadline) before it goes silent again. I'm curious if it's their original tower or not, thought the property owner gave them the boot?

WYRE's studios were co-located with WRNR for a number of years in the 90s, above the hardware store in Annapolis. Maybe they still have a transmitter feed from RNR's location. But apparently no one has a timer to shut down for the night. Or maybe they have limited access to YRE's transmitter site? These are wacky days for AM.

It signed off tonight, so that's good.

If WYRE does have to move after all, can it? 250 watts doesn't leave much room to drop signal for a simple omni operation (like diplexing on an existing station). Slim chance it could do what Annapolis' now defunct AM 1190 did for a few years and diplex to WNAV? But that doesn't factor in what the current owners are willing to invest, which past evidence shows is little.
