Has the Phil Valentine syndicated show been cancelled yet?

He's still got less than 20 affiliates. How long do they wait to pull the plug?

This guy's nothing special.

That would be 53 affiliates and counting, there Slick. Westwood One is posting nice profits on the show. Oh, just curious. How many markets are YOU in?

Phil

Dear Phil...I was in a market today in Memphis
and another in Hendersonville this afternoon. Got some 'maters, taters
and poke-beans.

good answer. Buddy

I've always found it so funny how people in the radio business are jealous of people that are successful. Gerry House,Carl P Mayfield,Phil Valentine...just because they've been successful at what they do is no reason
to dis them. Anyone who is on the air should care about turning on the listener...not an out of work jock.

Sorry Phil, we try to keep Steve Gill off the board, but ...

Slick?

You must wear cowboy boots.

I do apologize for the low station count. By the way, how many of those 53 stations are on in markets with more than 100 people?

And do you pay Rush Limbaugh an annual commission?

Phil! Congrats on the 53 ( and growing ) affiliates. I new you would pop in the talk radio world. It does take time, just like anything else in this world of BUSINESS. Folks try to buck the radio system. As much as we'd ALL like to hang onto some of the great past habits of radio, sometimes you have to go with the flow, because the bottom is the bottom line. I hope you and your family are doing splendid my friend.

All the best to you and EVERYONE I worked with in the past.

Nashville, TN.

Thanks, Rob! Great to hear from you. As always, I appreciate your support.

To the guy who asked how many stations we're on that have more than 100 listeners, I'd have to say if it were just one then it would be more than he's on. I suspect that's his problem. Look, I have a lot of great friends in the radio business. I'm always thrilled when I see they're doing well. For some folks, the success of others just eats them alive. Hard to climb the ladder of success with a 200-lb. chip on your shoulder.

Phil

Phil,
Well said, good comeback. Now get back in the cave…. Back! Back I say!!!

Phil, you learned your lesson from the Dinardo skit fiasco years ago. Can't believe Terry and your producer didn't stop you on that one. Good luck in your current format and syndication.

We need to ignore this troll. His account here and the yahoo mail account listed in his profile appear to have both been registered 9/9 for the purpose of starting crap. Just another jealous hack hiding behind a screen name.

phil valentine has been a hit everywhere he's gone and will continue to be at the top, he's a class act in everyway.
phil valentine rules!!!!!!!!!

Most of Nashville's "talk" community suffer from Dave Ramsey envy anyway. I'm happy Phil is on 53 stations no matter what market size but considering how fickle current station owners are who knows what happens next year. A lot of shows are available and a station can think they're "freshening things up" by changing shows like they change liner guys. And it's nothing personal because they have zero invested in it. It's barter.
I moved back to Nashville and found talk radio in generally boring and repetitive here. No blaming the hosts as much as just same topic/different day, bitching/moaning/whining over and over. It's nice entertainment for a while but if you find yourself "addicted" to it, be careful. Much of the information discussed is not all that important.
And before anybody blasts my comments please know I'm not as mean spirited as many of the callers. Just saying if you haven't lived in a top 5 market with a great talker or energized interesting news radio station you really can't understand the difference I'm referring to.
Nashville is generally too nice a city to find a lot of people stirring the pot everyday. Remember when hearing Rush everyday was a big deal. A lot of these guys are in the same boat as Sara Evans career: desperately trying to stay relevant.

Wow. This analogy gets my vote for the non sequitur of the year. Don't give up. It's only September.

These posts show, those with talk shows don't deserve them, and those who deserve them don't have one. What ever happened to Nashville's Night Line with Jake Wylde on WWTN? Let me guess... not "right" kind of show for that station?

So everyone who has a talk show doesn't deserve them? Are you the God of radio then? Who in the hell is Jake Wild? I've never heard of this guy. If he's full of himself like other talk show hosts, then yes he deserves a show of his own. If he was taken off the air then there are 49 other states and countless markets where he can go and make a name for himself. I like Phil and I like Ramsey. I love the new WTN morning guy and I even like Gill. I'm still cracking up over that statement..."Everybody that has a talk show doesn't deserve one". [EDIT]

Bogusboy didn't get it?

Sorry man, in your zeal to find a challenging word like non sequirter you might not have seen that there was a stream of thought in the analogy. I wasn't on the Vandy debate team so perhaps I jumped to a conclusion quickly.
In the over crowded world of talk radio a lot of guys are coming up with all kinds of angles just to stay "relevant" to an audience and "edgy" to management. I did not say Mr Valentine was one of those. In a recent conversation with a friend about Ms Evans we observed known tension with her career and the label trying to still wanting to be treated like a platinum artist while not being a platinum artist anymore, or at this time anyway. Bottom line artists and hosts are coming and going so quickly that a person we call a "guy with a hit show" today is dealing with unexplained cancellations tomorrow.
I can't confirm Westwood is making a "ton of money"off Phil. I'm happy they're giving him a shot. The big gun is Premier and the big stations in the big markets are where one wants to be and I have every reason to believe while other shows flounder Phil will stay focused and resilient. I'll try and not use colorful analogy's in the future and keep it simple. But someone who knows what "non sequirter" means should have seen the illustration, but then again not all talk radio fans know the sales figures of Music Row celebs. No problem.

Don't drag me into this!! And no I am not full of myself, no more than you seem to be. So bring it down a notch and try to direct your ire towards the person making the quote with which you seem to disagree, not the subject of the quote. And probably the reason you never heard of me is because you are probably not my audience, and guess what? That's OK. So please save the personal attacks for when you see me in person.
